what grade is ap chem normally taken in?

what grade is ap chem normally taken in?

Junior year, I think. Bio is for senior year. Its that way at our school

what about AP physics?

The exams or the class? I took the Biology, Chemistry, and Physics C exams my senior year. I think most people take Chem junior year and Biology senior year. Physics B is usually taken junior year; Physics C is usually taken senior year.

Usually, i would say:

Jr Year: Chem, Physics B (if applicable)
Sr Year: Bio, Physics C (E&M or Mech)

It’s usually (here)

Bio H fresh
Chem H soph
Physics B AP junior
Bio AP senior

(no one takes chem ap because the teacher is the h teacher and is an ahole, thus no class is made)

I took AP Chem my junior year and would have taken AP Bio my senior year if my schedule worked out…:frowning:
I’ve noticed that most kids in my school took AP Bio junior year and AP Physics/Chem in senior year. I took AP Chem junior year because the teacher was retiring, and I didn’t want to risk taking an AP class with a new teacher–(they said the new teacher was going to be the gifted chemistry teacher—who literally doesn’t know how to balance equations). It all depends, though.

Yeah we just got a new chem teach midway through last year. As far as teaching goes, he’s much better. (No one passed the test in the approx. 10 yrs it was offered under the old teacher. This year I am sure at least 5 will pass.) However, the old teacher was a nice guy, and this guy’s an ahole. I guess that’s how it goes.

AP science classes are depend upon math level, recommendation, and interest…

for AP Physics, students need to have atleast algebra II

Me vs. (Normal)

9th grade - H Bio (H Earth Science or H Bio)
10th grade - H Chem and H Physics (H Chem or H Bio)
11th grade - AP Physics B and AP Chem (AP Chem, AP Bio, H Physics, or H Chem)
12th grade - AP Bio (Any AP Class and H Physics)

In my school, it’s like

7th grade - Ecology
8th grade - Physical Science
9th grade - Biology
10th grade - Chemistry
11th grade - AP Chemistry/AP Biology/Physics
12th grade - AP Chem/AP Bio/Physics/AP Physics/Physiology

9th grade-bio
10th grade-chem
11th grade physics and either ap chem/ap bio/ap environ
12th grade- ap physics b or c or either ap chem or ap bio, which ever wasnt taken in 11th

Living in New York we have to take Regents exams so. . .it’s like this at our school:

Freshman- Regents Bio
Sophomore- Regents Chem
Junior- Physics (required) and AP Chem for the daring (like me!)
Senior- Advanced Bio, AP Bio, or
environmental/marine science (which are each one semester)
or you can take AP Chem senior year if you want
or you can skip science senior year

9th-Elementary Science (very, very basic physics + chem + bio)
10th-Biology
11th-Chemistry
12th-Physics + maaaybe AP Chemistry

I took:
9th - ES9
10th - Hon. Bio + Hon. Chem
11th - AP Chem
12th - Enr Physics + AP Physics + AP Bio

Yeah…should have foreseen that senior year load before…but block scheduling enables us to take Enr and AP Physics in the same year.

in my school
9th: very few, like 1-2 take ap bio
10th: ap bio
11th: ap chem
12th: ap physics

@ My school…

9th grade - Bio H
10th grade - AP Bio & Chem H
11th grade - AP Chem & Physics H
12th grade - APES or AP Physics

My schools only offers a class if 13 students sign up for it. Sadly, my school is full of students who dont care. 500-800 students in my school. I am taking AP Chem as a Junior. Next year they arent offering Physics (they dont have AP, this is just an “honors” class), AP Bio, or AP Chem. They also arent offering AP Comp. Sci. These are the AP classes that exist:
AP Bio
AP USH
AP Calcu
AP Gov
AP Spanish/French (once every 2-3 years)
AP Chem (once every 2-3 years)
AP Lang
AP Lit
AP Comp Sci (once every 2-3 years)

And thats it. Is it pretty sad, they dont offer much!

It totally varies according to the school, just like every other AP class.

At my school, it can technically be taken at any time, but it’s mostly seniors because they take AP Bio as juniors (like me!). I had a friend who took AP Bio and AP Chem as a junior because he wanted to fit in AP Physics as a senior…AP science classes are a period and a half, so it kinda limits your schedule.

You can only take APs as a junior or senior at my school.

In terms of Most to Least number of students in that grade taking it…
Junior Year: Chem -> Bio -> Env. -> Physics B
Senior Year: Bio -> Physics B -> Env. -> Chem -> Physics C

at my school its
9th - physics
10th-chemistry
11th- ap bio
12th- ap chem or ap phys (they offer it alternate years)

but the junior class this year had it different and took ap bio their sophmore year so they’re in ap chem junior year.

me, i’m a sophomore in ap chem because I took regular chem in an accelerated summer class and skipped up.
