Hey toneranger, I notice you are absent but so is the thread on why PSU is overrated and that Smitty character. Anybody know what happened? Toneranger, I sure hope you are just on vacation.

probably got a life. we should try it.

I’ve been in training for work. Can anybody summarize? I was involved early on and smitty was not what he said he was.

Yeah, I wondered why that entire thread disappeared too. Did I miss something?

maybe toneranger and smitty were the same person?

^^no …
GDad: toneranger suggested we ignore comments from ■■■■■’s instead of fueling the fire. Smitty made a comeback and that’s all I saw. Next day the thread was gone and haven’t heard from TR since and smitty… (whatever his# was) is gone also.

I have seen threads deleted by the site and user’s blocked for innappropriate comments but this was in no way TR’s style. Hope TR is just busy.

It is spring break at PSU. The vacation theory (or maybe he just wants to spend the week talking to his kid instead of talking on these boards) is most likely…

hey guys, I’m back. Was on vacation as suspected. Nice to feel missed!
Not sure what happened to the ■■■■■ thread. I guess the moderator thought the posts were bogus too.
By the way, I’m a “she”. lol
See ya.

wow, tr. glad you are back. Very bad timing with the disappearance of the thread and you at the same time. I thought the ■■■■■ had brought out the “beast” in you! ;)

yeah - I don’t think I ever posted anything that would warrant getting me kicked off the site! But I must admit that ■■■■■ did get me going! No sign of him or her lately though…

No, no sign…great example of Penn State Pride though…everybody got fired up, lol

I only went away because I realized this website is not about people giving honest opinion. It’s about old alumni with nothing better to do then to falsely build up their school. I honestly feel bad for prospective students who try to use this site to get a true view of a school. They are being seriously mislead and you are all doing them an extreme disservice.

smitty was banned and created a new account. How does OSU compare to PSU academically?

frasifrasi, if I was banned, how could I be using the same name? Seriously, what do they teach you people? Only my posts were deleted. I never wrote anything that warranted a banning. I don’t believe I wrote anything that even warranted being deleted.

I would just like to respond to the previous posts by Smitty412 that were deleted. I transferred from PSU to Pitt after two years for many of the same reasons Smitty412 described. However, I know that there are thousands of PSU grads who enjoyed their experiences at the school and wouldn’t trade them for anything. I think it was wrong for Smitty’s posts to be deleted because most of the things he wrote about seeing at PSU I also saw. Again, no two people have the same exact exerperiences, and many people enjoy the school, but it is important to hear from those who didn’t enjoy it, as well. Some of Smitty412’s posts could have been considered offensive, as could some of your attacks on him. However, nowhere did I see Simtty412 personally attack any one of you, although many of you attacked him. He was simply giving his personal commentary of the school, and while none of it was pretty, much of it was true. I think it is wrong for you to cover up your school’s flaws and band together with “Penn State Pride” to discredit someone who is trying to help. Prospective students need to know the good AND THE BAD of a school in order to make the right decision. If anything, it will helps PSU’s freshman retention pecentage if some students decide beforehand that PSU is not for them rather than realizing it after they get there. So please, if someone voices an opinion that you don’t agree with, let them speak. There is nothing wrong with politely disagreeing, but when you make personal attacks, it just backs up his arguments and make you sound immature and petty. No college is perfect. All prospective students usually hear is the good of a school, and discussion boards like these are supposed to help them get an honest answer. Yes, Smitty412 could have worded his posts with a little more tact, but he chose to be straightforward, and I cannot fault him for that.

Pat2323…if someone has not gone to PSU they lose all credibility when they talk about what is wrong with it.

pat- agree with sax of course. At least you went there. As I said before, I know many schools from second-hand experience (like Cornell - my brothers alma-mater). But I don’t think it’s right for me to go on Cornell’s site and report all the negative things I’ve heard. There are PLENTY of balanced opinions on the PSU board - it’s not all “la dee da” .
The FACTS are the retention rate is high (in the 90s) and study surveys show a very high percentage saying they would make the same choice if they had to do it over again. I give this info much more weight than a few anecdotes from a guy who never even attended the school.
In any case, I have no idea why the whole thread was deleted. Must be the “central pa -scranton” reference but who knows?
Yes, there is Penn State Pride (a good thing). And it makes sense to request credible sources of information. You seem to fit that profile - but not the other guy.
I see you have pride for Pitt. That’s great. I know some Pitt students who are not happy but I’ll leave that alone. Why would should anyone listen to me? I NEVER WENT THERE.
I’m done - last post on this - can’t even believe I’ve been dragged into this again!

It is true that without actually going to a school, one cannot truly describe the entire school. However, Smitty412 did seem to have a good grasp on a major part of the social scene at PSU. But I also believe that all posts should be balanced, and Smitty’s obviously were not. Again, I disagree with many of the personal attacks against Smitty412. I understand having school pride, but there is a difference between criticizing a school and personally criticizing another human being.

Why do posts even have to be balanced? My sister attended PSU and I know many current students, and Smitty was essentially correct about many things whether he went there or not. The point I tried to make on the deleted thread was that even if his criticisms are valid, some folks love PSU for what it is. One size does not fit all. Those proponents of Penn State should accept the criticism and post the things that are great about their college, rather than attacking a poster who says something they don’t like to hear. Even Happy Valley is not perfect!

I agree, lkf725. But it seems that in today’s world of politcal correctness, there is a fine line between critcism and offensiveness. If it were up to me, I think that everyone should be allowed to say whatever is on their minds. I also agree with Smitty’s posts. Like I said, he may not have gone their, but I did and I can tell you (from first-hand experience) that much of what he said was true. Obviously, the whole school is not like that and I know those kind of things happen at just about every other large school, but one cannot fault Smitty for telling it like it is.
