what happens when alcohol and uber mix?

Did it happen on Halloween? Was that an Adam Sandler costume the guy was wearing?

jym626 he needs weekly and random drug and alcohol testing for a while (and he needs to pick up the tab…not the taxpayer)
anger management classes for sure and a fine.

It seems to me from watching the video and listening to the uber driver that the passenger was probably black out drunk and totally not in control of himself. Driver said he was passing out in the back seat.

Some people act 180 % different when they are this drunk.

At least he didn’t drive.

Not sure there is any way of telling that someone is/was in a black out, but lets hope he accepts full responsibility for his actions and doesn’t use it as an excuse.

Well, the fired executive is suing Uber and the driver. He is now taking no responsibility at all for anything that happened that night.

I cannot believe this… I hope his suit is thrown out!

if the dude was smart he would just drop the issue and go away. he is not a victim of anything but his own self absorbed arrogance! he got fired because of what he did the cameras only captured it.(he thinks no cameras everything would still be groovy) I do not think he had a reasonable expectation of privacy in an uber. but anyway , I would advise him (long ago) publicly say he was sorry and he learned about the effects alcohol have on his personality and he has been humbled by this experience. but I guess he is going with a different game plan.

He is using as justification the law in California which says you may not record anyone without their permission. So I suppose all businesses in CA must now remove their cameras from the inside of the store or businesses? And that footage of shoplifting or other offenses may not be used as evidence? No nanny cams? No front porch security cameras using footage of theft to catch criminals?

Or, if the driver was wrong to videotape the incident, I vote for:

  • Passenger pays to driver all medical & legal costs, loss of income, plus some pain & suffering
  • Driver pays passenger $0.75. ( I couldn’t bring myself to up it to a dollar.)

I see no reason you can’t videotape the inside premises of your own vehicle, especially if you have who knows whom entering your vehicle. I hope the driver recovers a large amount from the drunk.

I will take a guess that stores and businesses in California might have a posted sign stating that anyone in the store agrees to be videotaped.

Uber should immediately add this to their written agreement in all states.

Any California lawyers able to assess the guy’s chances of winning this suit?

this might help

Not sure why my link no longer works. It was an AOL article.

Here is another one:

Ugh, I feel bad for the driver to be put through this nonsense. Even if he wins, the stress is horrible. I had to file a small claims court case against a woman who skied into me on a bunny slope. I was the downhill skier, so it was a cut and dry case. I ended up winning, but it was months of stress and worry. All I wanted was for her to pay me $1,300 for my medical costs!

@MaineLonghorn, agreed. DH had to sue a guy over a business transaction. It was ridiculous how in the wrong the other guy was. It was obvious from the get go that DH would win, and after a bunch of nonsense and a whole year of this, he finally won.

It was a year of hell for poor DH. So much stress, it was unbelievable. DH says he never ever ever ever wants to be involved in a lawsuit of any kind again. Hopefully, he won’t.

good grief another drunk attacking an Uber driver, this time a med student

So she gets off with no charges, smdh…

It is very troubling, these public drunken exhibitions. Makes you wonder if Uber will be taking any steps to protect its drivers and business model. It seems she should have charges for assault, for striking the guy, but none of us were there, so who knows what all occurred.

I’ve never been a fan and this doesn’t make me want to try uber or lyft. I know others who have used these services.

partyof5 I know the perfect guy to be her boyfriend. he used to work as a taco bell executive.

partyof5 …joking aside that women is a medical resident(very sad behavior for a person with that level of responsibility ) and no charges(sadder than sad and pathetic) beyond words! and the driver is very level headed just like the taco bell executive driver. I do not know how he restrained himself like he did!
