For those who like a variety of gift ideas…
Does anyone know how to gift hotel nights? I am giving three nights at a resort. Neo idea how to go about it. Reserve under their name and pay in advance?
Have you looked online to see if they have gift certificates (electronic at this point).
If not then I would make them a notice of some sort that that’s the gift, maybe a pic of hotel with the gift written on it.
If you know the exact nights, then I guess you could call the hotel and reserve/pay them directly.
If you have a particular hotel in mind I would ask them.
This year we mailed 5 waxed amaryllis plants (TJ, this year $7.99 each) mentioned earlier. I also decided that this year we needed to have one ourselves instead of just looking at progress/bloom photos texted by the delighted recipients. . It is doing great! In a about three weeks it has more than doubled in size.
PS to @abasket and my othr gardening friends - In the background are the geraniums that I bring inside and propogate in the winter. More are in the den under a grow light.
Some hotels require the name on the reservation match the name on the credit card used for booking. I’d call the particular hotel and find out how such a reservation can be made so the person staying would have no unpleasant surprises.
It can get tricky. You may want to make tentative reservation and give cash (or check) along with a pretty printout of the hotel webpage.
I once made a gift hotel reservations for parents at a lovely historic hotel at Denver train station (they were taking the 8am train the next morning to Glenwood Springs, a scenic mountain route; their travel agent had suggested a cheap place far away). The hotel front desk took the reservation using my credit card. But despite my several calls personally arranging things, the room ended up being charged to Dad’s credit card that he had to show at check-in (presumably for incidentals).
Somehow I’m guessing I’m the only person treating their H to a visit to the frank frazetta museum in PA. He has been a huge fan since he was a kid, and at some point he found their museum in PA, so we are hitting it on our way up north to see younger S. I’m being the patient wife as he hunts through their store. It is cool, I must admit. But I have bought him absolutely zero except for this. He appreciates this more.
@ClassicMom98 - I think that’s great.
I’m a fan of giving what someone truly wants. People sometimes give what they"want you to want". Like the MIL who gifts her DIL cooking things when she knows her DIL doesn’t enjoy cooking…
The geraniums look great! I have one still going on my sun porch.
I bought another TJ waxed amaryllis to inspire my seedlings. They’re from my first TJ flower from two years ago, which bloomed multiple times then sent up a seed pod last summer. I started a few dozen seeds but only some of them settled in.
I am now good for presents for H for the next 10 years. He’s getting a special reproduction of some painting. It is amazingly cool to me, but I just started giggling at how UN christmasy it is. It’s some kind of demon or Satan in hell. Hahaha!!! H is super happy, and I’m happy he’s happy. I do think it’s cooler than the comics that are sealed and in a safety deposit box that we never see.
We have half a mind to swap it for the kids’ portrait over the fireplace when they come to visit and see how long it takes them to notice
FWIW I had to google Frank Frazetta LOL.
Sounds H is very happy which is great!
Geez he sounds like my H. He would probably like that painting.
I don’t even want to talk about comic books. Ours are not in a safety deposit box but we have 4 whole cases full. They have went through like 6 moves and a zillion years of marriage. I hate those things they are always in my way. Gosh forbid you put something on the box! They can’t be too hot or too cold etc etc
So did I
No worries. I would have too if not married to H. It’s a comic, fantasy art thing. But I still find it cool as well. I loved the guy’s story though. He reminded me of my grandfather, but in reverse. He was from this area and moved to NYC instead of vice versa. But both fiercely family people first.
So, I posted this on the cartoon thread a while back:
Dead Man Walking
Then I saw a rather large box near the tree last night and jokingly told DH it had better not be a vacuum cleaner:
Really?
Dead man will be walking it back to UPS this week. Honestly.
I chuckled out loud. It is funny, although possibly not to you.
My DH asked me just yesterday if I was sure I didn’t need a new Dyson vacuum bc “they are having a super amazingly low sale on them at Best Buy” (I think).
I told him I’ve shopped plenty online the last few weeks for myself.
And that I definitely didn’t need a vacuum. But if HE wanted one to knock himself out.
ETA: I also told him that everytime he annoys me it makes me feel less guilty for all the things I’ve bought….and if he keeps it up, I’ll buy more.
(I’m really not bad….but I do feel
Less guilty when he irritates me.)
