<p>I know there is one level of hook, that helps if you already have excellent stats. But if your stats are in the middle of an applicant pile and the schools accepts 20% or fewer of students, what are hooks that would make you “irresistable”?</p>

<p>Being a nationally competitve athlete, Intel national winner, Boys state or Girls state governor, national president of an organization like National Honor Society, having had a book published by a major publisher (not self published), being a musical prodigy particularly on an instrument like the bassoon, being a celebrity such as the actor in a major film, having raised $50,000 or so for a charity, having multimillionaire donor parents, having celebrity parents – senators, film stars, etc.</p>
<p>It would help to make sure all your spelling is correct-- irresistible.</p>
<p>Bad spelling would make me resist–but then I’m an English teacher. </p>
<p>Otherwise, Northstarmom has it right-- what can also help is if other students from your high school in previous years are known to the college as outstanding students who have distinguished themselves. Colleges seem to think that kind of stuff “rubs off on others.”</p>

<p>Oh, but not the same blue crabs as the ones from the Chesapeake Bay! I’ve spent 4 summers steaming them and actually wrote one of my essays on it. The scenery though - yes very, very nice!</p>

<p>This is true…but they are still good and as a Southerner says…Srimp…I don’t know exactly how they say shrimp but it is not the Yankee way.</p>
