What is Lawrenceville's reputation?

Like, what is it known for or to be like, if that makes sense.

It depends who you ask, honestly.

princeton jr

^ and not necessarily in a good way.

@facbrat- what do you mean?

“Princeton, Jr.”

You know - I heard that. Makes sense given proximity.

Peddie’s Nightmare. :D

While Lawrenceville does have the reputation of sending a high percentage of graduates to Princeton, a lot of those grad’s parents are faculty/alums of Princeton themselves.

Also, yes, Peddie and Lawrenceville hate each other. A LOT. Sometimes I wonder if even our headmasters get on…

Well I was looking at my mother’s and her father’s and his father’s
princeton “facebook” which tells you which prep school (in my grandfather and great-grandfathers’ there we’re about 3 public schools in the whole grade)
and where they were from while the Gladchemms all showed up L’ville showed up every page sometimes with two or three students on a page
It is ridiculous haha. That is where L’ville got its nickname from correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the headmisstress of L’ville go to princeton.

There y’all go

No reason for L’ville and Peddie to hate each other. I have relatives at both, and they are just different places: they attract different types of students, have different reputations, and ultimately, have pretty different results for college matriculation and not just Princeton (sorry, Peddie).

No, the main reason Peddie and Lawrenceville hate each other is because of our sports rivalry.

Im sorry facbrat, but I can’t help but notice how almost everything you post is anti-lville… is there a story you would like to share? Did your parent not get a job there? Did you get rejected? It just seems that your anger towards the school is very strong and results in untrue posts… As an Lville student, I think it is strong to say that I hate Peddie or have any real dislike for the school.

In terms of the whole Princeton Junior thing, it is true that a number of students go to Princeton. But it is not so much that they are Princeton faculty kids and legacies. Yes, there certainly are faculty/legacies that get in, but I promise you that there are also a number who do not.

LOLZ - Correct me if I’m wrong, but you are going to be a freshman at Lville next year? Lawrenceville is known for a number of items. As already stated, Lawrenceville has an excellent matriculation. But that is not what makes the school distinct. The campus, which I hope you have seen in person (if not, you are in for a treat in September!) is well planned, organized, and overall beautiful. It is hard to describe. Harkness discussions and the overall classroom atmosphere is excellent. Outside of the classroom, there are a number of sports and clubs to keep one busy with. And in your free time, there is residential life. The house system is amazing and you will make amazing friends. In fact, you will almost always be around your friends which is part of the charm of boarding school in general. Traditions are another great thing at school.

Since I know someone will probably criticize Lville, I will go ahead and point out some items students do not like: Saturday morning classes are not too great starting out, but you get used to them and it is nice having wednesday afternoons off; our dining center is a little ugly from the outside, but inside it is fine; naturally one could argue that there are snobby kids around, but honestly, these kinds of people are everywhere - no matter which school one is at, they will find people they consider snobs.

Feel free to PM me.

Perhaps I should rephrase; maybe ‘hate’ is too strong. ‘Really, really don’t like’ fits, though. I only applied to one school, actually, and I think people who trash the schools they don’t get into are pretty sad, but no, I never applied to Lville. Also, no, my parent(s) never applied to work for Lawrenceville.

However, I’d mostly say my bias just comes from living on Peddie campus my whole life, and trust me, you wouldn’t believe some of the things that Lville did back before you went there, though I’m sure Peddie probably did some less-than savory things to Lville as well.

It would be stupid of me to try and say I’m completely fair and unbiased, but the OP asked for reputations, and this is the reputation Lawrenceville has to me.

But, this bias does not stem from any sort of jealousy, I can assure you. Just complete immersion in prep school life since Day One.

Facbrat has many great posts for new applicants and I think they are balanced. There is rivalry between Peddie and Lawrenceville, but facbrat is not anti-Lville.

^ Thanks, man!

LLV-nice post, you make your school proud. I loved L’ville. It is one of the top 5 schools in terms of beauty. We were treated extremely well, by the students, faculty and staff during our visit. The house system is one in which more schools should adopt. Though my daughter decided on DA she would have done great at L’ville. If I could redo high school, I would go to L’ville.

Haa, Tells you something, doesn’t it? :D

Pulsar-students can “fit” in many places. She didnt apply to any school as a “safety”. She would have gone to anyone verses stay home in her current high school. The selection of DA is purely a personal choice based on her being comfortable. No disrespect to L’ville. My d also turned down a place at Exeter, doesnt make DA better for everyone, just her gut feelinhg.
