Please rank these colleges in terms of beauty of campus, and describe them (I’ve never seen any of them and can’t find many good photos): Duke, Davidson, NC State, Wake Forest, and UNC-Chapel Hill. Thanks.

I would probably Say Duke, Wake, UNC, Davidson, State… but a lot of it is what you like…

Duke West Campus= Gothic
Wake= Georgian
UNC= Georgian (pretty much equal with Wake in the pretty department)
Davidson= A little more classical in styling… very pretty grounds… very small so very few buildings as in all the classes almost are in one big building
NC State= Ugly… not really any other way to describe it.

Here are a few links I found:

Duke: http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~petrov/duke/index_campus.html and

Davidson: http://www2.davidson.edu/welcome/campustour/html/index.asp
NC State: http://www2.chass.ncsu.edu/photoessay/Index.html
Wake Forest: <a href=“Department of History”>Department of History;
UNC-Chapel Hill: http://avalon.unomaha.edu/afghan/chapelhill/index.htm and

I should point out that I don’t think the list necessarily has “The Prettiest” in it. I need to go look at some more pictures, but UNC Asheville, and its surroundings, are pretty spectacular. Meredith has a very nice campus, too. Ooo - ooo - and Elon. Can’t forget Elon.

Davidson
UNC-Chapel Hill
Duke & Wake Forest
…
…
NC State

It’s sort of a toss up between Davidson and Chapel Hill, but I give Davidson the edge because UNC has a lot of construction going on. Duke’s architecture is nice, but the campus itself isn’t as landscaped as either. Wake Forest has a very nice campus (prefers magnolias instead of Duke’s oaks), but it’s a bit cramped. NC State is just plain ugly (brick…lots of it).

I agree with DukeEgr’s assessment of UNCA. Western Carolina also has a nice campus and amazing scenery. :)

Thanks very much for the info (especially the links, Duke). I really respect the efforts that are made to make campuses beautiful in the South in general, and the state of NC in particular.

Yeah… I think Campus Dirt has Elon ranked as the most beautiful campus in the country so that is nice. I would say that Wake and Davidson have the best landscaping… followed by UNC… followed by Duke… once again State in last.

I still think Duke is the prettiest… and Davidson is really nice… but I wouldnt put it first because the buildings arent that exciting especially other than just the library, main building, and church. Wake is a little cramped… their landscaping of the main quad is amazing though… UNC is really pretty and I like how it kind of flows in with Franklin Street… its very seemless
