Just out of curiosity
1470-1500
The middle 50% range cannot be that small
Sure it can. Instate is 1380-1420. Out of state applicants that get in that about those scores. ACT average is 33.
The middle 50 for last years accepted students was 1330-1490 according to the admission website so your numbers seem a little high. I have never seen it broken down by OOS and in state. 31-34 for ACT.
The state breaks SAT scores down by residency for every school in Virginia, but it looks like they don’t collect ACT, probably because the ACT hasn’t historically been as popular on the east coast. That is obviously changing.
As you can see, the SAT numbers aren’t all that different for VA and OOS. I would imagine the difference isn’t huge for the ACT.
Middle 50% Range is Fair to Good
Colleges report the middle 50% range of scores by excluding the bottom 25% and the top 25% of accepted students’ scores.
So, school selection applicants in 4 categories;
Needs Improvement
Fair
Good
Great
Thank you Dean J, I didn’t know that site existed. They don’t have the new SAT scores only 2016 scores but the average in-state enrolled student SAT was 1337(reading and math) and OOS was 1369(reading and math).
FWIW, we don’t put students into “categories” as comment #6 says.
Does Uva only look at the math and reading part of the test? No writing? For the new sat, they have two sections EBRW and Math. Do they ignore the writing composite score?
Our testing policy is on the instructions page.
