What Is the Most Expensive Place You Have Ever Visited?

^^^The best, only second to the alter (sic).

Tokyo, London, USVirgin Islands, Hawaii, DC, Paris.

Bermuda. Loved it anyway.

Tahiti - but would go back in a heartbeat!!

I just ordered Euros for an upcoming trip. The exchange rate is shocking.

Rodney - DW works at a University with a “No Snow Days” policy, so we need AWD. We had a '97 A6 Avant that was fabulous, so when that hit 200K miles we traded it on what looked like a perfect replacement … an '03 A6 Avant. Alas, this one was built with subpar materials. I can do most of the work myself, and I have an expensive-but-competent garage for more complex work. With all that I still have more interaction with the Audi dealer than I’d like.

PS, One of DW’s colleagues lives in a million-dollar house and sends her kids to private school beginning with Kindergarten. She recently traded her '06 A4 Convertible because “I can’t afford the maintenance.”

Oslo without a doubt.

Why’s everyone saying London? It’s only expensive if you stay in hotels in the centre, go to fancy restaurants and shop in places like Covent Garden. It’s quite possible to live in and visit London on a small budget.

^^Same goes for Hawaii - if you live in a fancy hotel and eat out every meal, it is expensive. If you live in a condo, buy your groceries at Costco and Safeway, and cook your own meals, it is not that pricy.

I paid what equated to $9 for a diet coke in Paris in September of 08. Wine was cheaper!
Though Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Island was really expensive…and really great.

Neo-natal Intensive Care. Fortunately I was truly only visiting since the baby in question stayed seven months!
Getting ready to head for a vacation somewhere with the reputation of being pretty pricy, so I’ll have to see.

Easy - the Minnesota Twin baseball game. $7.25 (need that $.25) for a beer. Geez.

Japan is probably the most expensive place we’ve visited, but we actually had a place to stay (International Club) in Tokyo that was quite reasonable. We also got a railpass that saved us money. We don’t find the Virgin Islands expensive because we stay in cabins at the campground.

Now if you want to talk about expensive meals two years ago we spent over $500 on dinner for three in Saarbrucken, Germany. It was a Michelin 3 star restaurant and truly a memorable experience. The next day we went to a free outdoor rock concert so it all evened out!

THE meat counter at Whole Foods

^^ LOL! You’ve got that right, musica!

Fenway Park when the Yankees are in town.

Moscow–hands down.

On a more serious note, in terms of cities/countries, it’s a toss-up between Bermuda, Maui, and NYC.

I admit that I’ve secretly wished that our kids could just share a bottle of wine with us, to save money!

I just got back from a fancy fishing lodge in Montana. This thread inspired me to do that math and I figured out that it cost about $130 per fish (caught by me). And I caught quite a few fish!

I’m sure I’m forgetting something but the most expensive lunch I remember in the last several years was on Orient Beach on St. Martin, over $100 for 3 and we’re not talking a lot of food. But the ambiance was priceless, I must admit.

Our first post-$100 dinner was at Lutece in NYC many many years ago. Easy to hit that nowadays without really trying.
