What Is the Most Expensive Place You Have Ever Visited?

St Barths… this must have been 25 years ago, but I remember the $45 hamburgers (apiece) on the beach. Also Weill Cornell Medical Center (maybe it’s a tie?)

I once stayed at le Bristol in Paris (on business about 20 years ago). Rooms (today) start at $1100 per night and move higher quickly. It was a nice hotel, but for just a place to sleep I would never pay that much out of my own pocket.

Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef. But what an experience – not likely to be able to make it happen again, but what an amazing experience.

Paris, not a question…We went to London last year and found it comparable to Los Angeles. Maui…manageable. Paris, omg I have NEVER spent so much money so fast.

Zurich and Nome. Yikes!

Yep on the exchange rate. Just goes to show how devalued the dollar is becoming.

Craps table in Vegas…each of the 6 free drinks i had cost 500 a piece

Few weeks ago, we were in Italy stayed on a little island off Tuscany. We rented a villa and ate in most of the time because the house was so beautiful. H suggested for us to go to a nearby hotel (appeared to be nice) to have a nice meal since we have been eating in. When we arrived I noticed it was a Relais Chateaux establishment, and I knew we were in for something big. We(4 of us) had bellini(s) (freshly squeezed peach with champagne) then followed by paired wines with 8 course meals, the setting was on a balconey over looking the Mediterranean Ocean. When the bill came, H told me not to worry about it - I just saw it on the AmEx bill, all I could say is it was priceless.

Atlantis in the bahamas.

I would have said Bermuda until recently… I did a stop over in Iceland. My sister and I thought on the first night that we were having a relatively inexpensive dinner. Turned out to be $30 bowls of fish soup - as in the local food, nothing brought in. We tried to find family hole in the wall places and just couldn’t.

^Iceland’s a bit of a bargain at the moment; it’s much cheaper to holiday there now than it was a couple of years ago!

I am SO jealous… I think…

I’d say it’s between Hawaii and Italy but we did just visit Israel over Passover and it was ridiculously expensive but well worth it!

Paris was mixed. We paid what amounted to 15 dollars for a coffee by Notre Dame but about 5 dollars worth for a huge and delicious sandwich in St. Germaine des Pres.

Once ate in a fancy restaurant on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. $100 bottle of wine didn’t bother me, the two $12 cokes 6 oz. (this was 15-20 years ago) my kids had, did.

Oh, just remembered. Hubby was in St Petersburg, attending a conference late last year. When I saw a $500 restaurant charge on our Visa, I almost died. I emailed him saying there was some fraud going on. He said that he went to dinner with a bunch of their marketing folks, and they picked a bottle of French wine which turned out to be quite expensive, close to $200 a bottle. Not quite well versed in the dollalr to ruble conversion rate, DH did not realize the mistake until much later. He took a picture of the label… It is a cheapo-crapo wine we can get here in Seattle for $5-7 - I think it is the French version of the 2 Buck Chuck. Talk about the astronomical markup!!! But, OTOH, DH and a coworker had a fabulous, fabulous sushi dinner for $35 for both of them, which included sushi, drinks, tip and tax. Go figure.
