What is the "sexiest" college?

Ignorant, greens.

not sure where the fallacy that UCLA is superior to UT in academics come from. They’re practically the same by all measures, from undergrad PA score, overall NRC rankings, USNWR grad rankings, etc.

If anything, the failure of UCLA to rank MUCH than UT while HAVING a medical school on campus (which tends to greatly benefit academic reputation, increase funding, support higher NAS membership #s, etc.) must show that UCLA is actually quite weak compared to UT, then, right? Why can’t UCLA blow away UT’s rankings with all the ancillary academic/financial advantages a med school provides? Also, if UT was so inferior, it’s quite interesting that the UC system keeps hiring away its administrators to actually LEAD or RUN the UC System (Yudof currently for the UC System) or schools within it (Berdahl the previous chancellor at Berkeley, Fox at UCSD). Hmmm… if UT is experience is good enough to RUN the UC system, that must be saying something.

“No city beats LA for college. we got the mall, the celebrities, westwood, beach, clubs, movies, and nice weather. sure hell beats meat-judging contests and country music.”

Obvisously this proves your ignorance, because you evidently have never been to Austin. Austin is the most liberal city in Texas, so that means you are going to be exposed to a variety of ideas and cultures.

Another thing, at least Austin doesn’t have a blanket of smog hanging over it.

UT Knoxville. Extremely hot girls with great sports teams. Relatively good academics, but it’s not Michigan or UVA. The college is intertwined with its town, kinda like NYU, except Knoxville is like a giant suburb (for example, if you walk along the street you’ll see an academic building, a house, a pizza place, dorms, etc). Knoxville is also one of the safest cities in the state, violent crimes are unheard of.

Now I dont go to UCLA, but…

JWT that was perhaps the worst attempted logic Ive seen on this boards. UCLA is weak because it doesnt beat Texas in graduate related rankings? Just ignore the fact that USN rates UCLA at 25 for undergraduate and Texas at 44.

That being said, UCLA and Texas could as well be on the same academic school. Nevertheless, UCLA is still more “famous” than Texas unless you are a sports fanatic.

As for which is a nicer area, you could make points for either. Socal has famously nice weather and beautiful beaches (but earthquakes as some of you have recently read), whereas Texas has decent weather (humidity fan?) and the Gulf of Mexico for beaches (ugh Galveston). Smog is less of an issue though (unless you are in Houston, as Im at Rice right now).

Anyways, I think what really matters is our Governor can beat yours in a fight.

Besides, Westwood is not in the valley, which means the smog is not an issue.

I’m from Cali (though soon to be MA) so I’m biased, but I have to go with UCLA hands down. UCLA has great sports, amazing academics, beautiful girls, tons of school spirit, and Westwood. You’re also a short drive from Santa Monica.

I ended up turning UCLA down, but it is a great school and very Sexy.

If all you want is amazing weather and beautiful girls, check out UCSD or UCSB. La Holla and Illa Vista are great. And both have great academics too.

As for as the US news undergrad ranking is concerned it doesn’t reflect the strength of UT, bc UT by Texas law has to accept every person in the top ten percent of thier class so if you get a 900/2400 and are in the top ten percent you get in. So the average SAT score is low which adversely affects its ranking. That is also why there is such a disparity between the undergrad ranking of UT and the rankings of its graduate school.

Greens I have never played WoW before in my life. I went to San Fransico and being conservative I really didn’t like it. Part of the reason why i am not going to apply for Stanford. But i would go for law school.

Seiken, the absurdity of that statement was my point. The claim was made that UCLA is somehow vastly superior to UT academically. I was using just as weak logic to say the fact they’re so close in the reputation ranking, while UCLA has the advantage of a med school (which provides a huge boost to reputation/funding) means it must quite weak in other areas without it. Yeah, it is rather silly, isn’t it? By the same token, it’s silly to say UCLA blows UT away academically when the evidence doesn’t support that. This should be reflected in the undergrad PA score, which, as I said, it is not. And the fact that UCLA is more famous has much more to do with the typical coastal bias than any inherent true advantage, as the academic reputation rankings show. And regarding the undergrad USNWR overall ranking, well, outside of the PA score which is the true “academic ranking”, the other factors are explained by UT’s sheer size due to Texas law that requires 1) at least 90% of undergrads be from in-state and 2) top 10% of HS admitted. This is what results in the lower overall undergrad ranking using USNWR criteria, NOT a major difference in academic reputation.

Oh boy. You went to San Fran hahahah.
Did you go there to look for colleges or a vacation?
You shouldn’t base cali off of san fran, LOL.
Bro, if you want to have fun, come down to LA and OC - So Cal in general. SD is really nice too.
I’m not sure what you’re into, but being conservative, I’m not sure if you’d enjoy the ammeneties we have to offer.
But if you ever get a shot, def come check it out. You won’t regret it =]

JWT: UCLA has the same rules that UT has with in state students. In fact, according to the college board both schools have 94/6 instate to OOS ratios of their students. Nevertheless, whether it is by requirement or not, the fact that both schools have to shaft OOS students and cater to the instate ones hurts both of them on the academic level. I might even suggest that it hurts UCLA worse because the top instate students will usually go to Berkeley instead. But at the same time, we are larger state.

And as Greens says, try not to base Southern California off of what Northern California is like - they are two completely different cultures. However, I do not think that a conservative person is guaranteed to have more fun in Southern California. I could suggest you visit Rancho Mirage near Palm Springs if you are forced to come here as its a very relaxing place, and has very large Republican base, but meh, no colleges. In either case, I dont how someone who hated San Francisco would be in passionate love with Austin; i would say they are probably closer in feel than either of the two with Los Angeles.

did someone say UT has almost as good as reputation as UCLA? ima bust my balls laughing

^^ I have been since this thread started.

Actually, at this point “ima bust my balls laughing” at your apparent complete and utter lack of reading comprehension or ability to interpret facts. I mean, the complete lack of significant variation in academic REPUTATION between the two has already been posted many times. What don’t you understand?? lol

Yep, guess you’re right. I’m totally ROTFLMAO at the idea that UT has a similar reputation as UCLA! hardy har har <lol></lol>

Seriously… clinging to an idea because you “think so” when the facts speak otherwise is even funnier.

^ yeah sure UT might rank a lil close to UCLA but the fact that UCLA has the better location, better prestige, and better rank, still makes UCLA sexier. your rankings only prove what most people have said all along this thread, UCLA > UT.

GAHHH I feel obligated to comment on this. LA is the fakest place I have ever been in my life. If fake boobs, fake blonde hair, fake tans, fake nails etc. are considered sexy then you will be in heaven at UCLA. Some of the buildings are even fake in LA…***??!

UT certainly has those types of people too, along with every other kind of person you could ever imagine. Austin is one of the healthiest cities in America, and to me there is nothing sexier than seeing hundreds of beautiful people in Zilker Park running, biking, swimming, boating or just lazing around. 6th Street is the only place you can get all the clubs/bars of a big city, and still get a straight up Texas experience with BBQ and country. Austin has something for absolutely everyone.

And HAAA at anyone who thinks UCLA is better for sports than UT. I agree with whoever said Kevin Love will go nowhere in the NBA…nothing made me happier than seeing CDR dunk right on him during the Memphis-UCLA Final Four game, and I breathed a sigh of relief when the Grizzlies traded him for OJ Mayo.

Sooo back to the original question… UCLA is far sexier than UT

JWT, stop embarrassing yourself.
I guess I can understand why you live off ranking…you’re a hardcore CC’er.

USC rivals UCLA in almost everything, so it’s pretty foolish to not include it in this discussion.

Also, I’ve heard great things about them SEC girls =P

I agree with mempho re LA being the most fake and ridiculous spot on earth. It’s the antithesis of a college town…everything fake and superficial…no respect for anything which does not shine. It’s one huge monument to style over substance. LA is sexy like Anna Nicole Smith was sexy. Texas is sexy like Carrie Underwood is sexy.
