What is the style in New York City now?

Besides peacoats, got that one down :)

LoL i’m a member of two message boards. College Confidential and The Fashion Spot for fashion-obsessed style junkies like me…

haha it’s pretty self explanatory, but there are a great number of posts/pictures of the latest NYC Street Styles and Trends. it’s awesome becuase it’s pictures of actual people there and not just from magazines.

oh wait the mods are probably going to delete my message because i’m linking you…

oops.

neat site! see last month I went there with my friends and we looked so out of place. Most of those styles are out of the top but I will dress nicely this time. But it’s so freakin cold!

The thing is this no matter how much tourists try and emulate the NYC style they either A) underdo it B) overdo it. Unless of course you are from the other fashion cooker spots in the world.

Black. Wear black.

^yeah I’m looking for black peacoat now. If I wore my yellow one will it look bad?
sorry I’m obsessed with peacoats. I guess I’m asking for winter styles, how to stay warm and look good.

ugg boots are all over nj.

i can’t stand when people wear boots when it’s not snowing

i cant stand ugg boats at all. i think there uggggly lol

The first time i saw them was on that MTV show “Rich Girls” and that Hilfiger girl wore those small tan boots with her red dress on her graduation day and I thought they were the cutest things in the world. Now girls wear them like they’re flip flops and the guys here think they look stupid too.

not exactly a fashion thing, but holy crap- EVERYONE in NYC has an ipod. you can’t walk 2 feet without seeing those white earphones. lol, I’m done being off topic now.

Yeah, iPoops are everywhere

ipodenvy

lol

ugg boots, moccasins, ballet slippers, seven jeans, not so much pleated skirts this year… pea coats are ALWAYS in lol…hmm, lots and lots of polos (lacoste, le tigre, Polo) in many colors.

emily has those flat slippers :D

There’s no real “new york style” that every New Yorker sticks with. To me, it’s always seemed a neighborhood/ethnic group type of thing. That is, asian ghetto kids wear ecko, black kids wear tnf, white kids wear abercrombie, you get the idea.

ipods are very popular.

the “trendy” styles are only for those who can afford them. Most people wear the same stuff year after year.

In terms of color… black and other drab colors are pretty common, especially in the poorer areas. More affluent sections also prefer black wool (for men) and sometimes brighter or bolder colors for women, like red. Generally serious colors. I don’t remember EVER seeing pink, light blue, green, purple, or anything like that.

Yea I’ve really started looking at how DARK new york is because most people wear black (myself included). I don’t really mind because I think it looks good on everybody and it’s never out of style.

Thanks a lot guys, you all helped so much.

You’re welcome. I hope you have fun here (and don’t freeze to death!)

bumpy

ok, no black coats
would a yellow peacoat look too weird over there?
