I heard it is a “suicide” school because all people do there is study. Is that true?

Hard to say differently…

LOL.

But no, it’s a great college, a beautiful place to study and live. You do have to work here though, nothing is just handed to you…

You get out what you put in. You must know how to study and utilize your time here. If you don’t know how or have doubts, W&M has some of the nicest administrators here to help you - this is their job! You’ll be introduced to this department and learn how to organize time + workload (and all that other fun stuff) during freshman orientation. Don’t worry!

Most people study a lot.

but people also generally have fun. There’s always people out doing things.

My friend says that sciencs at WM is very, very (VERY) cutthroat. He went as far as telling everybody not to major in science if they come to WM if they want the idealized college experience many students seek. Granted, he is in neuroscience so his subject matter alone is very difficult and difficulty may not be restricted to the school.

hey, we’r going to have a blast at WM. If you’re not a work-aholic. dont worry, alot of people aren’t either…

like me

… my premed friends (and neuroscience) can often be found working together on things and studying together. That’s not cutthroat.

Well, I meant cutthroat as far as workload and such. Maybe I’m using the word incorrectly

My D goes to W & M and she is out of state - she works hard, but doesn’t find it cutthroat or excessively demanding. I think it probably depends on what you are used to - she didn’t need to study much in high school and she does study now. She is in a sorority and does tons of other activities also and even has a part time job. She is doing great academically - so you can manage it all! Suicide reputation is kind of a campus joke really - no truth there. Btw, her closest friends aren’t greek.

workload is heavy, but if you went through a good college prep program, you’ll be fine…

I do less work at W&M than I did in the IB program. However, I think I’m probably also in the bottom 25% of students regarding the number of hours outside of class that I work… I have no idea if that’s true though =P
