Greater Good Pulp Daddy…
Thanks for the tip @GKUnion!
Guinness draft from a can with the nitrogen widget—not close to the nectar-of-the-gods you can get in Ireland, but I’ll take it until we can travel again!!
Doing my best to follow the 6 rules of the Perfect Pour.
@MADad I’ve been to St. James Gate many times…there’s no better pint in the world than the one you’ll get at the Gravity Bar above the Guinness Brewery.
Where’s the first place you’ll go to get a pint once the “all clear” is sounded?
After 9 months of not drinking, my alcohol tolerance is nil. A friend gave me corona beer for a birth present (it seemed appropriate and I love corona) and I’m only halfway through the 6 pack.
I’ve never gotten into wine or hard alcohol and even though our party stores (convenience stores) are open, it doesn’t seem worth going into for some alcohol. Restaurants are doing carryout alcohol though so maybe we’ll take advantage of that eventually.
@LTmomof2 . Virginia suburbs of DC. I’ve got 2 beer stores near me that have great selections. Tonight’s beers were Hopkeeper from Hardywood (VA)and AVL IPA from Highland (NC).
DC has a great beer scene so I have tons of options.
Best is such hard thing-- my typical answer is whatever I’ve had last
Papi Chulo from Commonwealth (VA) is a recent favorite
Another One – Maine Brewing was tasty
Dogfish 120 is the gold standard
Wine. Usually Chardonnay. I am a cliche.
Grand Marnier in a nice snifter.
@jmnva06
Nice selection! Agree about Dogfish. I haven’t seen the 120, but the 90 isn’t bad!
Amazing how quickly this thread has taken off during these COVID times! ??? lol!
I keep a bottle of Grand Marnier 150th Anniversary handy for special occasions.
I am going through bottles of expensive champagne that I had saved in the back of the shelf for special occasions. But I’m only one person and I hate to waste the remainder that goes flat in a couple of days.
They only release the 120 in the fall. I was able to snag 1 bottle this year and have 1 at one of their alehouses.
I had a meeting with Sam Calagione (Dogfish owner) not long before the virus reared its ugly head.
Ice cold gin martinis, up with a twist and three jalapeño- (or garlic-) stuffed olives. We keep the gin and the vermouth-swirled martini glasses upside down in the freezer ready at a moment’s notice. Occasionally, we opt for Manhattans, but nothing beats an artic martini in my book.
Aperol Spritz
Bourbon with 7/up (with chambor and bitters)
In January I cut back to 2 glasses wine/week. So far I have been pretty good on sticking to this. Just going through the wine we have here in the house, but there is enough here to last a long time.
Since I come from a family of religious teetotalers, I have to be careful what I post on Facebook. No glasses of wine or beer cans in photos! Sigh. I feel like I’m 15. I know it’s crazy but I don’t feel like getting lectured by distant cousins, ha.
We have a lot of wine but for the most part we’re not drinking what we have. Most of our local restaurants are doing carryout and offering wine specials, which we have supported and enjoyed. I want them to be able to open again!
I like Hendricks martinis, manhattans. H is partial to a Dark and Stormy most of the time but will join me in the occasional manhattan.
I saw the Dogfish 120 mentioned upthread - you’re a lucky person when you can score some of that. We belong to the Hardywood “Family Tree” club and have really enjoyed those “special” beers.
Our rotation these days includes Tito’s, simple (but delicious) with lemonade or cranberry, gin & tonics - heavy on the lime (agree that tonic is getting scarce), and sometimes a nice cold Pinot Grigio.
Last week I decided to try and use up some flavored vodka that’s been sitting in the freezer for a while. I had grape and Tartz, both of which are pretty good with cranberry juice.
