My young’uns suggested Drizly as an online way to get liquor delivered. I am awaiting a delivery.
@milee30 – that is a great story, and one that you can tell to your grandchildren!
I have a moment that I can’t forget… when my kid was young, I had been traveling on business for a full week, came home on a Friday afternoon to pick him up at camp but I was on a business call. He now tells the story as: he was so excited that his mommy was coming home after being away all week… but when I got there I told him that I was on a business call and to stay quiet in the car. To this day, it breaks my heart when he reminds me of it.
@NYMom122 - next time he reminds you of the story just respond, “well at least I didn’t leave you alone in a dark, raining parking lot to chase after my car and call my name as I sped away! Yes, there really are terrible mommies out there that do this sort of thing. And don’t even try to call them - they just don’t answer!”
PS - I’m sure as he gets older your son understands that was a situational thing, not an indicator of how you feel. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Virginia law lets parents serve their underage children in their home and we took well advantage of that.
@ChoatieMom – we were excited for our girls to turn 21 so we could all have margaritas at our Mexican place and beers anywhere.
Tonight’s beers:
Woods and Waters from Maine Brewing
Orange Starfish from Aslin
Le Merle from North Coast
Way too off topic, but our son heard me tell someone one drunken night that given a choice I still would have preferred not to have children (DH and I never planned to have kids; I was four months pregnant at 40 before I knew). There’s a huge difference between hating parenthood and hating children. I love our son viscerally but parenthood, not so much. An eight-year-old can’t understand that nuance. I will be making up for that devasting comment for the rest of my life. (DH found him sobbing in his bedroom.)
On a lighter note, we took twelve-year-old with us to a very high-end Scottsdale restaurant. When the sommelier had taken our wine orders, he looked at little ChoatieKid and asked, “And what would YOU like to drink with dinner, young man?” Without batting an eye, CK said, “Something frisky but not too pretentious, a red on the dry side.” I immediately said, “He’ll have a Sprite,” and gave CK a murderous stink eye.
