What is your "adult beverage" of choice during quarantine?

My ingredients for cosmo are arriving tomorrow - Vodka, Cointreau, lime, cranberry juice. I also have Tawny port, white wine and champagne are also in the same delivery. I have a feeling this shelter in is going to be for a while.

It’s Wine Wednesday in our house…

Margaritas with our fish tacos tonight.

Tonight’s choice: Newport Daze from Rogue

When I have a crowd for which to make drinks, I like Guy Fieri’s Shark Attack. It can be made en mass and the drunken fruit (if you are of the fruit-liking variety) is good as I’ve been told.

Every time I take my Forge de Laguiole corkscrew out of the leather sheath to open a bottle of wine it brings a smile to my face.

@BunsenBurner - I haven’t heard of that winery. Once we’re able to do in person tastings, we’ll check it out.

This is the time of year that the first rose wines are released. I’m going to have to buy based on prior year experience :slightly_frowning_face:

Tonight’s Negroni brought to me via Stanley Gucci’s master class video.

We have Zoom dinners with friends and have taken out some extra special wines when the friends are wine lovers. My favorite was a 2004 Sagrantino di Montefalco we brought back from Umbria three years ago. Also a Grgich Hills Estate 2007 Zinfandel and Grgich Hills Estate 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, which were gifts. Other lesser wines with other folks who wouldn’t appreciate the heavy duty stuff… Seems odd to share great wines virtually, but hey. You’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.

On other nights, ShawWife likes tonic with lemon and a unnoticeably small amount of gin. I prefer beer. These days either Corona or Jack’s Abbey Blood Orange Wheat beer.

Truly/White Claw Grapefruit and Tolon Tolon Whisky Cream Liqueur! (Not together though!)

Tonight’s beverage: Lunch from Maine Beer

I read today that wine sales are up 60 % - so that must be the most popular drink of choice right now.

@kiddie, we get our wine except for the super-good stuff from Costco or Cameron Hughes. [Actually I’ve gotten some fantastic high-end wines from Costco as well at terrific prices]. We get our beer usually from Costco. Alas, Costco doesn’t deliver liquor via Instacart so we’re getting perilously low on beer.

It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere!

“Is it too early to drink?”

“A few weeks into our current disorientation, that line or some jokey variation of it began to appear with a certain frequency on Twitter, in texts I’d get, in Slack messages, in my head.”

For these interesting time, I defer to the most interesting man in the world - “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.” Stay thirsty, my friends…

I’ve changed my preferred choice to Appletinis starting last night. My husband makes the BEST, we even tell the bartenders how we like them. I don’t want mine super strong, as I want more than 1!

1 shot vodka
2 jiggers sour apple pucker
1 jigger Midori

And don’t forget that cherry!

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but my 15 year old mixes the best drinks. Before you judge too hard, he doesn’t drink them and it’s not as odd that he’d be mixing them since he’s an avid cook and baker. Many of the cookbooks and websites he uses multiple times a week suggest drinks with various dishes and he likes to complete the meal by mixing the drink (or opening the suggested wine.) DH and I aren’t huge drinkers but it’s been fun when DS makes a fancy meal including a paired drink.

Yes, I know this puts me out of the running for Mother of the Year, but since I’m generally not up for that award anyways, it’s OK.

My current choice is Magner’s cider. Or cider in general, though it’s hard to find good stuff. But I got a couple sixes of Magner’s and can pretend I’m back in Ireland, or even our trip to Normandy (cidre there was amazing).

Sigh.

Now I’m pretending I’ve got a bucket of mussels with pommes frites on the side and I’m on side street in Etretat after climbing the cliffs.

Double sigh.

We did not plan very well and the start of lockdown and bought TP instead of tequila. I’m really missing Margaritas which was my top pick when we would go out.

I missed out on that award, too, @milee30. We allowed our son to drink with us since… I won’t mention the age. We believe it demystified alcohol early enough on that he was never interested in indulging illegally with friends, and he developed a palate for the good stuff. Several times on the prep forum I posted that we seemed to be the only parents who couldn’t wait for our son to turn 21 so he could hoist a few with us at our favorite places. He is now a fine connoisseur of wines, whiskeys, and bourbons and knows how to make a mean martini as well. Like father, like son.

My closest friends (the ones you could be truthful with) and I used to joke about what day exactly we were officially out of the running. The worst year ever for me was when my son was 7 years old and I had to tell my friends that in a new record, I was out of the annual Mother of the Year Award as of January 2. Only two days into the year!

Although I always sat with my son watching his swim practice, that one night I hadn’t gotten dinner going yet and asked him if it would be OK if I dropped him off, went to get dinner started and his dad would pick him up. He was fine with the idea so I dropped him off and went home to make dinner.

When DH brought him home, DS was hanging out in the kitchen with me, happily chatting. After a while I realized his hair wasn’t wet and asked him why. He explained that swim practice had been canceled. This was pretty alarming to me - what the heck had he been doing at the Y for the past hour and a half?

He explained that when he found out practice was canceled he went outside to find me but I was driving away. It was dark and raining, but he chased my car for a while yelling “mom!”… while I kept driving. So he shrugged, went back inside and called me. The number showed as my phone as “unknown” so I assumed telemarketer, especially since nobody left a message. [If this had been me as a 7 year old, I would have been scared and concerned - not him, though. He gives new meaning to the phrase easy going.] Since he couldn’t reach me, he decided to hang out, try some equipment, make friends. When I asked if he was worried, he looked puzzled and said that no, he knew Dad was coming to get him.

So he wasn’t in the least bothered by his adventure, but when I think of leaving my 7 year old unsupervised, chasing my car though a dark, rainy parking lot and then in a gym for an hour and a half while I screened his phone calls, I still feel a little nauseous about what could have happened. Guess in all honesty that one may have knocked me out of the Mother of the Year thing for a decade…
