What is YOUR fall-back plan?

Every student considers it, even if for only a second: what if I don’t get into any of the schools I applied to?

I’m only applying to four schools, so I guess I’ve been wondering that question more than most kids do. I decided that my back-up plan (and I really hope it doesn’t come to this) is to go to the community college in the next county, get a bartender license (you only have to be 18 for that where I live), and earn enough money in a year to move out of state. And out-of-state would be about 2000 miles from home in this little city where a few of my older friends own this little shack/piece-of-crap house that they use in the winter when they’re snowboarding and filming. They’re old enough to actually own a bar, so I’d help them to make the purchase so that I could bartend there. And since we’re all young and hip, we could probably make mad money off the bar. It’d be the only one of its kind in that area.

…or I could just work for a year, and then apply to school again next fall.

But I’m curious, do YOU have a back-up plan?

Eh… maybe CC and a gap year. Or I’d enlist in the military.

Well, my instate publics are pretty good, and (in my opinion) not that hard to get in looking from the data of past years for IB students (which I am one, and I’m at least in the top 10% :)). So FSU, UF, or NCF can arguably be called my fall-backs. I’m aiming for out of state though.

But if something happens, like a rogue mailman steals all my letters, then I’d probably go to CC. Or work. Or join the military.

I’ve already been admitted. In any case, I selected several schools where I would be guaranteed admission to serve as a back-up plan.

Pull a Chris McCandless. I mean, he did it after college, but hey, can’t be picky at that point.

Or go to Mombasa.

NJ STARS program. kids in the top 15% of their high school class get a free associates at a community college and then the next 2 years free to earn their bachelors at any NJ state school, as long as they stay in the top 20% at community. i qualify, so i would do that. but i definitely think i have enough safties that i’ll be okay :]

If don’t get into anywhere, i’ll spend 6 months working to raise enough money to go to europe to party for another six months. Then i’ll apply to Columbia School of General Studies.

I’m 3/3 on admissions decisions so far. So. I have my back-up plan in case Purdue engineering won’t want me.

But if I have a mental breakdown and can’t handle engineering, then I’m going to go into Public Relations or something else non-math and science-y.

I’d probably be a musician in a military band. I’ve always thought that would be fun.

That’s why I selected two schools where I’m pretty much guaranteed admission. My mom thinks I’m being overly pessimistic about it, but I just don’t want to risk anything.

Either way, I am going to have to take a gap year - a lot of things I need to work out and fix for the next year or so.

I actually thought of that, even though I’m not crazy about the community colleges in my area (I don’t even want to stay here). One of my friends took part in the program, though the transition from community college to the state university was absolutely brutal for him.

Well my fall back plan is to go to a college in my country of origin. That would suck tho.

This is one of the reasons why I applied to only reach - high match schools in the US. I expect to get rejected by at least 70% of them.

Actually. The only way I’ll not get into a college like GMU is if I don’t apply.

Enlist in the military.

But that wasn’t my back-up plan… that’s something I considered doing instead of college. =/

But my school has a 100% college acceptance rate… so I’d be up ****creek if I didn’t get into a school. I’d have some pretty mad people at me for ruining the school’s perfect record. lol

My back up plan is to go to a random UC, most likely UC Merced or Davis. Thank god I’m guaranteed a university.

To fall back is to back down, btw…

Getting rejected from your safety school would totally suck ***.

^ Getting rejected from your safety school = you didn’t have a safety school.

Sit at home with my mama.

Seattle Pacific for me… I’m sure i’ll get in most places, but financial aid is what ineed to be sure of. SPU should offer me a decent amount.

Work up my applications for schools not in the US/UK that start their school year around March (apply around October).
