What is YOUR fall-back plan?

@QwertyKey: What’s so bizarre about my back-up plan consisting of having a (relatively nice) paying job and going to community college? Do you look down on bartenders?

Like I said, I’m only applying to four schools and none of them are super safeties. So, I can’t help but consider the “what if’s”. Mine are just probably a little different than yours would be =)

I really want to go to the University of Washington in Seattle… dorm…get scholarships so I won’t have a ton of debt… And just overall have a great time while there…

However, I’m not a shoe-in or anything like that, so I am trying to not fall in love with the idea of going there.

My backup plan really depends on money. If I get enough scholarships/FA, I will most likely go to Seattle University. If I’m a little low… I’ll end up going to a decent state school… but whatever. **** it. I’m just going to aim for the top…

Got accepted by my safety school on thursday =]

What the hell? Already? Nice job for being on top of things haha.

Congrats RonakPat on your acceptance!!

Luckily I don’t have to worry about my fall-back plan quite yet, but if my exercise routine works out alright I plan on becoming a stripper at a gay bar in NYC. Be jealous

Michigan State was my safety and they are ridiculously fast at their application processing… I thought it would be atleast a few weeks before they accept/deny but it took them 6 days >_>

My back up plan would be attending UGA or Cal State Long Beach and then possibly transfering to another school after 1-2 years.

Well, I’m applying to Georgia State as a safety anyway, and if I don’t get in there… then that school has Tufts Syndrome.

Not there yet - don’t have one.

Hahahaha… I wish I had a fall-back plan

maybe I’ll start a business lol

emphasis mine

Good luck with that. UDub is stingy with merit aid.

Low matches and safeties

ELC (California guaranteed admit thing) –> mid-to-lower tier UC
If for some reason that vanishes,

community college honors program/guaranteed transfer to UC

study abroad since I’m saving money anyway

Rolling admissions school

Ask my art teacher to call an art school for special consideration (apparently, he’s done stuff like that before for rejected seniors)

Peace Corps

Anyway, catastrophic interventions of fate would have to happen to get past 1, and I wouldn’t even mind 2-5 all that badly. Nice to know that I can breathe a little about this.

Peace Corps generally requires their volunteers to have a college degree.

I have guaranteed admission to UC Merced even if I don’t apply. But realistically, I would probably just go to a Community College for two years or, if I applied, go to the local CSU (it’s like an 87% acceptance rate, I’m not even going to hypothesize that I wouldn’t get in).

I’m already guaranteed to be accepted to the University of Oregon, which also happens to be among my top choices. So I’m set.

But if not, I’d do a gap year or enlist in the Marines or the Navy. If I joined the military, I want to become an officer, so I would need to go to school and do ROTC or go to Officer Candidate School.

^^^Didn’t know that, thanks. I just looked it up and found out (just saying for anyone else out there interested) that 96% of volunteers have at least a bachelor’s, and the rest have worked on the family farm or have displayed exemplary leadership. So I’d theoretically have a harder chance of getting in there than an elite college. xD Never mind.

I would probably get a job at a cafe and tutor at my high school whenever I can. Then when I get the ball rolling, move out and get an apartment somewhere. Maybe street perform with my guitar on weekends for fun, and I’ll keep writing, hoping that someday something will get published.

Hell… that doesn’t sound that bad actually…

Most definitely enlist in the military.

In the rather unlikely event that I don’t get into any school I apply to (which is quite unrealistic since I have a sizable number of low matches/safeties), I would probably take a gap year and live in a European country (most likely either Germany or Italy) for one year, learning the language. Then I’d re-apply for the next year.
