what is your favorite cocktail?

In my old age, I might finally need to learn about drinks other than wine and beer. I don’t know how to order a scotch.

I like a dark and stormy.

Pain killers with only fresh grated nutmeg from Grenada. That is my summer party drink

I prefer champagne but recently fell in love with Kir Royals with Chambord or black currant liquor at the bottom of the champagne

The only other hard liquor I drink is heavy dark rum, diet caffeine coke and lots of limes. A girly Cuba Libre

Depends upon where, when and mood! In Grenada, we go to a beach bar with the best pain killers-never tried them anywhere else. Dining out at a local casual place on the water, I have their Margaritas-rocks, at home in the winter I like Bailey’s Espresso on the rocks, in the summer I like a Tom Collins or a Vodka Collins.

@amom2girls Never heard of Boulevadier before … but since I love Negronis and Bourbon, it sounds perfect! I only learned to love Bourbon when my S attended University of Kentucky.

Favorite summer drink - old school Tanqueray & Tonic with lime or Margarita, @sherpa style
Winter: Old Fashioned with Michters or Woodford bourbon

Used to love Cosmopolitans until an unfortunate run-in a few years ago. 4 against 1. Don’t recommend it!

@houndmom

Go Cats!

Summer cocktail Ketel one martini up with blue cheese stuffed olives. This usually at dinner out. At home we experiment with different drinks, Aperol spritz, margaritas, infused vodkas. During the rest of the year it’s usually bourbon drinks, manhattans, old fashions. Husband is really into creating craft cocktails which is wicked for my liver and waistline. At least I don’t like scotch.

If any of your are ever in Vegas and care about great cocktails, go to the Laundry Room. You have to text ahead of time for a reservation, I think 8 can sit at the bar and then maybe 2-3 tables for 2. All drinks $16, no wine, no beer, no Captain Morgan or regular mixers. All classic cocktails or ones made up for you based on what you like. Smoky, orange, boozy yielded a great drink. Most drinks probably have 10+ ingredients. Some of the best cocktails I have ever had.

If anyone ever goes to The Soggy Dollar bar in the bvi’s the nilla killer is a must.

Small world, I knew one of the owners, eyemamom.

I don’t partake anymore. But the classics for me…

Grey Goose Cape Codder
Captain Morgan Spiced Rum & Coke w/lime
Slightly dry Albariño White
Glenmorghie 20. Peatier the better.
Corona Light with lime - seaside or poolside

I don’t remember what I drank at the Soggy Dollar, but I do remember having a good time. That’s a case of wishing I would have bought more than one t-shirt; the one I have is pretty ragged but I can’t part with it.

Quick question for martini drinkers: Gin or vodka?

In my mind if it isn’t gin it isn’t really a martini but I believe I’m in the minority.

edited to add: It seems Wikipedia agrees with me.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martini_(cocktail)

@sherpa you are in the minority. But that does not make you incorrect.

@sherpa I was just talking about the gin/vodka martini dilemma with H (a diehard gin martini guy) and a young woman who is learning to bartend.

New bartender said customers who request “a real martini” mean gin. She said they can get a little judgy if she reaches for the vodka!

Is the Soggy Dollar a bar you have to take a boat to near St John? If so I’ve been there also, and we actually ran into someone my husband knew from work there (small world).

“Is the Soggy Dollar a bar you have to take a boat to near St John?”

Yes, the soggy dollar referring to a swim to shore for many.

Whiskey sour!

Thanks @doschicos - I actually looked it up on-line, and I can’t remember if we went to Soggy Dollar or Roxy’s. Im pretty sure it was Soggy Dollar, and my husband is actually looking for pics to figure it out

I only recently discovered Cointreau as a less sweet alternative orange liquor to use in a margarita. I don’t like sweet drinks and the margaritas I order at bars are usually too sweet. Also, a margarita using Cointreau is called a Silver Coin cocktail so now I ask for that. When I make it at home I only use a splash of Cointreau and lots of lime juice.

I was a bit befuddled when all the martini variations came out some years ago. Chocolate, pomegranate, watermelon, etc. For me, it’s gin and just a touch of vermouth. And don’t forget the extra olives.

To me, nothing beats a well-made Old Fashioned. But with the warmer weather, I’ve been enjoying Gin Rickeys (gin, lime juice, fresh lime, and mineral water)—so simple and refreshing!

My friend ordered a martini without vermouth and got charged an additional $6! They said it was for the extra gin. I thought that was ridiculous.
