I’m way behind on my podcast listening but this question came up on a fav one.
What’s Your Food Crime?
Basically a way you eat a certain food or combine two foods that you think is delicious but others might at.
Examples on the podcast included:
Eating Cool Ranch Doritos with Skittles
Sheet Pan Vegetables Roasted and Topped With Maple Syrup
Oreos dipped in spicy nacho cheese (I’m adventurous but I don’t know about this!)
Tuna salad with salsa mixed in
My son used to dip his potato chips in ketchup - at 32 he still might do that!
And my daughter age 27 still likes to dip her bacon in ketchup.
(apparently we are a ketchup leaning family???)
I’ll have to give it some thought.
The only thing I can come up with is when it’s cold, at night I like a warm mug of milk with sugar and butter in it - something my mom used to give us when we were under the weather.
Weirdly, as a kid, I loved drinking the juice that came from canned mushrooms. I think it must have been the saltiness and the vague mushroomy flavor. I’m completely revolted at myself when I think of that now. I also used to make bologna sandwiches with ketchup. HOW?
As a kid I ate sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and applesauce on a hotdog roll. My favorite sandwich!
Today my food crime is probably that I put sriracha on practically everything.
When I had lunch duty the cafeteria often served raw carrots with ranch dressing on the same day as pizza. Kids would put the ranch on their pizza and throw the carrots in the trash.
I sneak sips of dill pickle juice. In fact, I buy dill pickles just for the juice. Though there is no science behind it and some argue that it’s just a myth/placebo effect, I will slip into the kitchen at night to sip some juice when I’m experiencing a recurring severe cramp in my left thigh. It does work for me.
