Ooh—I love chopped liver!!
Me too! And I can make it myself and it’s delicious. But I don’t do it unless my husband is out of town. Same with liver and onions. I LOVE calves liver and onions. But no one else in my family does…
I don’t eat liver generally but love chopped liver. It’s a heritage thing I guess.
Liverwurst and chopped liver are different foods, although there might be a crossover of some ingredients. I’ve never eaten liverwurst but understand it’s a sausage made from pork or calves liver. Chopped liver, otoh, is essentially a pâté made from chicken livers. My family was a fan of my homemade variety. I’ve never eaten any kind of liver in any other form.
Eating liver in any form is a food crime IMO. It is the organ that processes the majority of the toxins that enter the body. Ditto kidneys. Not a single medicinal chemist I know would eat those.
I think I’d like pate. Liverwurst is similar… spreadable but packaged in a thin casing. At my deli they don’t “slice” it because it tends to smoosh. I gently make thick slices at home for sandwich.
Oh I know! And I was diagnosed with a variant of liver cancer earlier this year so my once a year indulgence is now …0.
Editing to add — it was caught early and I’m doing fine now!
Our family is mostly DILL pickle fans. H also likes sweet pickles, which causes the rest of us to cringe. You should see the expressions when I order an eggs Benedict with eggs over hard—priceless!
Half sours for my entire family—although we like the sweet bread-and-butter pickles too.
Back when Fluffernutters were popular (peanut butter and marshmallow fluff), my brothers took it to the extreme with jelly and marshmallow, on Wonder bread. We called them ‘sugar sandwiches’. That most likely after a breakfast of Cap’n Crunch or Fruit Loops. A day of sugar.
I actually used to make sugar sandwiches as a child. White bread, butter, white sugar. I’m assuming my parents didn’t realize.
Oh…I had the German version…black bread, butter and sugar.
And…black bread with rendered bacon fat - including some small crunchy bacon bits. I don’t eat that anymore because we don’t eat much bacon.
I substitute graham crackers for the while bread, and I love them for a snack. I also eat graham cracker crust by the spoonfuls
saltines and margarine dipped in sugar
Red wine with halibut and white wine with steak.
We did that, but with cinnamon sugar mixture - “cinnamon toast.”
I’m a white wine with anything kind of gal (I don’t drink red wine at all) - I guess that may be my food crime.
Same. I think it was my mom’s way of encouraging us to make a budget snack. In those days the toast was from white bread, which I only eat now when doing colonoscopy prep.
Wait…what? You can eat white bread while you are starving to death doing colonoscopy prep?
No, you can’t do white bread during the last day prior to colonoscopy prep. But I am directed to start a low fiber diet fiber diet 7 days prior… that is when I eat white bread. (Well also in the weeks after - those loaves are big).
