What Is Your Food Crime?

It didn’t occur to me that this was a food crime. I had Bran Flakes this morning. I let the milk soak for 13 minutes before eating. After a number of trials, I’ve found that 13 minutes is optimal for best taste, with my large serving size. Other cereals differ. The only cereals I prefer to eat immediately without soaking are Toasted O’s type cereals. I like to retain the crisp crunch for Toasted O’s, For Grape Nuts, I like to microwave first, then soak.

I wait a similar amount of time before eating ice cream. I prefer it soft and just on the verge of melting.

I will only eat Kellogg’s Raisin Bran, not Post Raisin Bran.

I’m a no condiment/sauce person too.

But my childhood food crime (which was served by my dad), was cabbage/carrot slaw sprinkled with sugar. My sister and I loved it.

I am not a fan of mayonnaise, so we only have smalll bottles and use sparingly. I prefer the stone ground mustard but really am fond of pretty much all mustards. Not fond of catsups. Actually I don’t use most sauces and few condiments.

I only like eggs hard—boiled or over hard or firm omelet. No gushiness—ick!

Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. They can be dill or bread and butter pickles.

OR cream cheese and green olive sandwiches. Delicious!!

I do that too!

These are very entertaining!

I’ve had to raise my hand a few times to doing the same crime.

No mayonnaise or cereal in this house (ever). Some crimes averted.

My father used to make something we called “mush” and eat it on crackers. It was blue cheese, butter, and Worcestershire sauce, mashed until it was smooth.

We liked liverwurst. Haha!

Bread and butter pickles are gross, but cream cheese and green olives, awesome! Same with bacon and cream cheese, I used to put then on bagels (real ones) but now on a Panella bread.

I didn’t think I had a food crime, because it’s been awhile since I ate it but I liked Einstein chocolate bagels with their salmon cream cheese. Unfortunately I believe they have discontinued the salmon cream cheese.

I also cut up all my meat before eating it. I think it goes back to childhood. My stepdad would cut my meat as he hated seeing me use a knife with my left hand.
I loved pickle juice growing up.
My major oddness is I only like my French toast savory. No sugar or vanilla in the egg mixture. I cook it in a mix of salted butter/olive oil and top it with butter and salt and pepper. It is divine!
I also grew up thinking dill pickles went on tacos and in burritos. I taught my kids this habit.

I love cold canned green beans. No weird combos I can think of. Oh, from childhood, sugared rice with beef gravy. I guess it was Mom’s way of getting me to eat the rice. LOL.

I fed my very young kids green beans right out of the can. A friend gave me that “tip” (no need to heat them), so they didn’t know any other way.

Your crime is eating a hot dog :).

It’s ok - I love bbq sauce and salad dressing.

If they’re really good ones, I’ll keep putting some on a spoon and eat/drink it for the flavor even when the food is long gone.

Speaking of hot dogs and since I know longer eat I don’t have relish in the house - but I could literally eat a jar of relish unaccompanied by any food. I love it. It’s going on the shopping list !! I haven’t had it in years.

One of my brother’s food crimes almost cost him a relationship. When he was young, he loved Open Pit BBQ sauce and put it on everything. Everything. For dinner one evening, after laboriously chopping and dicing, his GF made a stir fry and asked him to tend the wok while she answered the phone in another room. When she returned, she was stunned to find him dumping Open Pit into the wok! Dinner ruined. But not for him. She is not my SIL.

(The relationship ended later not over that incident, though I’m sure it didn’t help.)

I never warmed up baby food and made bottles with powdered formula and tap water, close to room temperature.

I think that cream cheese is underrated (and underutilized) in sandwiches. I make a mean grilled sandwich with turkey, corned beef, swiss or provolone, cream cheese, and a mayo/russian mixture. The cream cheese gets all melty/gooey and to me, that’s a YUM.

I love liverwurst. It’s not especially healthy. And my husband hates the smell. So it’s a treat I buy when he is out of town.
