TWC sent mail telling me my bill will increase to $92/month. They said my promotion period expired. In fact I did not subcribe to any promotional program in the last 2 years. I had basic TV and turbo internet with 20 Mbps. I never had 20 Mbps. The highest speed I had was about 12 Mbps.
Today I called I asked why they increase my fee. They could not explain well. I asked them to switch to their current special service Start TV and Extreme Internet with 30 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload for $64.99/month. I exchanged the cable modem/router box.
I just tested the new speed on both ethernet line and wireless. The speed is impressive: 34 Mbps download and 5.7 Mbps upload. I don’t know how much they will charge me after 12 months though. I probably will downgrade the service to 15 Mbps (TWC lowest speed now) if they ask for more money.
Just checked Verizon FIOS with Verizon speed test and Speedtest.net- both the same with computer wired through electric outlet to router. 25 Mbps up and 15 down. Lucky college students with access to those high speeds.
Verizen FIOS wireless just checked on my iPad at about 23 download and 17 upload. Of course, I would like higher but not willing to pay more at this time.
Per speedtest.net, right now 101 down and 9.7 up. My hope is the upload speeds start to increase. I had 25 down and it was not fast enough. (I have RCN, a cable company in only a few markets.) It is, IMHO, worth it to get fast internet, meaning 75 and over downstream.
I think I get 20 download and 2 upload. We pay $56 and it includes a landline with our phone company. It’s much faster than we used to get and works fine for our purposes. D insisted we upgrade from basic DSL, which was much slower.
