An interesting question on some podcasts I’ve listened to (and I think, some college essays!)
I’ll define “superpower” as a personal quality you have that makes you stand out as a human being in some way. Or just stands out for YOU in terms of your other qualities.
Think about yourself. Don’t stop thinking until you come up with something! It could be your sense of humor. Your frankness that has helped through tough times. Being calm. Energy that never quits.
What is your superpower???
I am often told I am perpetually upbeat and glass half full. That’s my superpower.
Does it make you stand out as a human being or the human being you want/strive to be??
So I would say this is not something you are GOOD at (like knitting, biking, painting) but the personality trait or virtue that makes you stand out as a human being. You could say I’m good at knitting because my superpower is PERSISTENCE at getting a project finished. Or I’m really great a biking because my superpower is BEING DEDICATED TO CONSISTENCY - I make sure no matter what I’m training 3 x a week.
Mine is that I can find my kid’s belongings for them from over 1,000 mikes away when they are lost. (Seriously — I have done it for both kids — can talk them through finding things — sometimes it occurs to me later where to look, I text, and sure enough). They think it is creepy, but useful.
Ok, I’ll bite. I’m a person who can get stuff done. I’m very resourceful, I know how to figure things out and get it accomplished. Can’t find something, can’t figure out what the next step is. I’ll figure it out, happily.
Where other people are stuck, not me. I think it’s easy.
Now sometimes, my superpower is to come here and ask. I’m serious, you can find anything and get advice here, I’ve decided, on any subject. Good, accurate advice too.
I live with all guys - DH and 2 boys - and apparently the ability to see dirt is very rare as I’m the only one in the house who has this Superpower. B-)
If I have driven someplace even once I can get there again, no matter how many years it has been or where in the world it is.
H refused to get GPS system for the longest time because I was his GPS system (this is a man who turned left on our street to get to our own home when left was the opposite direction - after living here for 15 years or so.) I hadn’t realized I needed to be “on” a block away from our house.
I can read between the lines and can tell when someone is stressed no matter their words to the contrary. (complete strangers will tell me their troubles for some reason).
I know where all items are in the house no matter who lost it except if the item belongs to me.
I can time things to within seconds while cooking. I usually turn something off right before the timer.
I do pretty well at giving people the benefit of the doubt. More of a practiced skill.
I can study, understand and organize very complex information and datasets, then package and explain these to others in a simple but comprehensive way, while making it engaging and exciting. I am also very good at helping others do the same. Comes very handy for my job.
I can wade through bureaucracy and paperwork and get things done for myself and others I care about.
My H and kids always think I can find things anywhere in the house. Often I do but I get irked and would like them to look a bit before calling me to help them search. Sheesh!
I am an excellent judge of character and situations. I can spot danger, phoniness, insincerity, etc. a mile away. I a also an excellent parallel parker.
