Let’s try not to make this political.
If proposed tariffs happen are there purchases you will try to make prior.
One of my kids is doing a kitchen remodel after a water leak. What items if any would she benefit by buying soon?
Timely - we’ve been talking about this in my family for a few weeks now. Christmas presents may be decided by this! Interested in seeing the responses.
Drywall comes from China these days… but very hard to order in advance without measurements, etc.
Very few appliances are made in the USA anymore… and the few that are, use components from other places, so THEY will raise the price to compensate for their increased costs.
Tough to anticipate what will be needed and when though… appliances take up a lot of room, so you don’t want to be tripping over a range or a dishwasher for months…
I have read this info in a few places.
What about cars? Toyota in particular
Thanks for the article. My husband has been pushing me to get an e-bike. I recently sold my old one and was not in a rush to replace.
Interesting about drywall. They are almost to that phase of construction.
We just bought a cooktop. Made in Germany. Looking for a wardrobe; the front runner is made in the US, but the wood is most likely coming from Canada so…
Lots of companies will have record sales this quarter, IMO.
Hard to know. Many are built here but what is the parts content ?
Many clothiers are saying their prices will go up.
Whether that’s a threat to boost current sales or truthful I don’t know.
Ralph Lauren was one who said it - and yet the stock jumped 15%.
Son’s been dragging his feet about buying a new car and I’m encouraging him to do it during his time off later this month. I gather December is a good time anyway.
The last two new cars we got for my wife were purchased on December 30th, and we got great deals.
End of the year up to to Jan 2 is - that’s year end in the car business.
Dealers with too much stock, and manufacturers that have volume programs out to dealers - dealers will be looking to hit a volume # to get payouts, sometimes in the hundreds of thousands and more so they are willing to take loser deals to get there.
Oh yes, I heard much of the wood for new construction homes and home additions comes from Canada and lumber prices may increase
I would definitely suggest buying the appliances as soon as possible.
Although many cars (including many Toyotas) are made in the US, an increase in price of imported models will increase demand for domestically made models, leading to higher prices. Also, cars made in the US typically have some imported parts.
To answer the title question, anything where a significant part of the market is imported, even if the model you want is domestically made.
I would think that if you want anything of significant cost, and you know for certain that you want it, buy it soon. The reality is, who knows what countries will see tariffs placed upon their products, and how much. We don’t know who will make it through the maze of exceptions, and the system is rife for corruption. Items made domestically still stand to increase in price, as producers and sellers look around and see higher prices for foreign products, they’ll raise the cost of theirs also. I would expect significant inflation, and if it doesn’t happen (unlikely), if the products you purchased were something you wanted, no big deal.
Even without reading the article, I was thinking of any computer stuff, especially apple products.
A reminder that this is not the Politics Forum. Thanks for your understanding.
We are also renovating our kitchen and decided to order all the appliances before anything else is done.
