What kind of music do you guys like?

Just wondering what kind of stuff the class of 09 likes… I’m a rock & roll kind of guy. Favorite bands include: Led Zeppelin, U2, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Tom Petty, Rush, Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Queen, RHCP, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews, Coldplay, The Doors, Eric Clapton, and Incubus. My all time favorite song has to be “With or Without You” by U2 - very good representation of my life. :frowning: My all time favorite musical is Les Miserables.

for the wretched of the earthhh there is a flame that never diesss even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise. listened to the finale a bajillion times, some good bands there on yer list.

Yeah…Les Mis rocks. I guess I’m biased towards it cause I was part of our school production.

hehe. I just recently saw Bye Bye Birdie at my school. That was pretty fun. Last year I saw Sound of Music at my old school. Boy…that tanked…pretty badly. Tonight, I’m seeing Once Upon a Mattress. I’ve never heard of that one, but my friend is the frickin’ star!!

Anyway, I love Weezer.

Once Upon a Mattress…rofl

weezer’s great. i also like taking back sunday, brand new, say anything, my chemical romance, 2pac, dmx, the doors, the beatles, hidden in plain view, the used, damien rice, modest mouse, bright eyes, coheed, franz ferdinand, death cab for cutie (way before they were on the oc), postal service, placebo, k-os, red hot chili peppers, the smiths, straylight run.
and others lol

and radiohead’s paranoid android is one of the most amazing songs ever…

all kinds of music - mostly, whitney, christina, mariah, celine, usher, linkin park, evanescence, hoobstank, third eye blind, matchbox 20, goo goo dolls, boyz II men, all 4 one, kelly clarkson, mary j blige, trapt, shania twain, other 80’s & 90’s and today’s rock/pop

{taking back sunday, brand new, say anything, my chemical romance, coheed, death cab for cutie, postal service, straylight run.}

SWEET. Thank god I’m going to college next year with someone who likes Say Anything. …is a real boy was my favorite album of '04.

I’m into all of the bands I reposted above, but I was more into them (except for Say Anything, Death Cab, and the Postal Service) a year or two ago. Anyway, I’m a music nerd, so pardon me if my list is long or whatever:

My three favorite bands are Green Day, Fall Out Boy, and Thrice.
I’m really into hardcore: Gorilla Biscuits, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Refused, Comeback Kid, Champion, With Honor, Have Heart, Verse, Killing The Dream, The First Step, Love is Red, 7 Seconds, Terror, Shai Hulud, Inside Out, Chain of Strength, American Nightmare, etc. etc. etc.
I love pop punk like Fall Out Boy, MxPx, Green Day, Punchline, Acceptance, Blink 182, etc.
Metal and metalcore are always good: 3 inches of blood, trivium, winter solstice, as i lay dying, every time i die, etc.
indie/etc. - mars volta, iron and wine, the postal service, etc.

That was a long list. I’m not going to major in music (I’m more of a Classics person, but who knows?), but I really want to start a band at JHU and have a radio show-- in addition to meeting kids who like the music I like.

Yikes…you’re music tastes might be a little too emo for mine. >_< Any other hardcore classic rock fans out there?

tool and a perfect circle roxor

I didn’t list any emo bands. Anyway, in terms of what you originally listed/and other bands of the sort, I like Zeppelin, Radiohead, Queen, The Beatles, and The Who, Hendrix, etc.

Classic rock is really good, but I don’t really seek much of it out. I just enjoy listening to it when it’s on.

i am andrew: i saw say anything open at a straylight run show at the stone pony a couple months back. after that i got hooked.

I heard about Say Anything on absolutepunk.net last August right before …is a real boy came out… they are AMAZING. I am the arts editor for my school newspaper (I also interview bands… I’m really in to music journalism), and my first article this year was a review of …is a real boy.

Straylight Run is pretty cool too. After John and Shaun left TBS, I was waiting forever to hear some new material. I still haven’t picked up the full length though… I’ve just had the demos for a year and a half.

Straylight Run? I am obsessed with them. To the extreme. Glad to know a couple of people share my love.

I guess I have a pretty broad taste in music. I used to be all up in the “scene”, but lately I’m just listening to some Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC, Rockapella(yes, you can make fun of me for that one), The Alkaline Trio, Bright Eyes, The Killers, Belle & Sebastian, Older Bon Jovi, Collective Soul, The Cure, Coheed&Cambria, Fear Before the March of Flames, Head Automatica, Glassjaw, Journey, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Pink Floyd, Oasis, Queen, Reel Big Fish, Saves the Day, Rolling Stones, Rilo Kiley, The Shins, The Talking Heads, Styx, The Violent Femmes, Tracy Chapman, ZZ Top, Tom Petty… and… yeah.

Can’t wait to get to know some of you guys with great musical taste. IM me and talk music sometime: SlaveToVices.

I am so happy right now. I thought I was going to be the only one who liked some of these bands… hopefully there are some hardcore kids though.

Anyway, I love The Cure, TThe Shins, The Killers, and Head Automatica (out of your list). I never really liked Glassjaw.

You mentioned Saves The Day-- do you by chance like Lifetime? Early Saves The Day sounds a lot like them.

Fear Before The March of Flames is decent–I’ve only heard one song and it was from the old album. I like The Blood Brothers (they have a similar sound) too.

If anyone wants to talk music, IM me sometime: flyguy467–It’s from “rapper’s delight,” it’s not because I’m full of myself. Anyway…

Wow…very BROAD musical taste, Slave. You listed a lot of bands that I both love and a few that I absolutely hate (Bright Eyes and Reel Big Fish - anything ska for example) but its great to see you can listen to such a huge range.

awww there’s no love for ska anywhere now.

I completely forgot to mention that I really love jazz. I like John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, and a few others.

Glad to know i will be among at least one kindred spirit

“(Bright Eyes and Reel Big Fish - anything ska for example)”

I’m sorry but Bright Eyes is not ska…Conor Oberst would sooner turn Republican then attach his name to anything ska.

Most of your music tastes make me laugh. Sure your diverse, but in the end you are all just posers. The Killers??? HAHAHA…jesus christ. Try listening to the brothers davies with the kinks, Lou reed and the velvet underground and the smiths. The three best bands of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. That should be a good starting point for you kiddies. Oh, and if you dare say the stones, beatles or the who should be mentioned above the kinks…well then…i feel sorry for you.

but hey, not everyone can have good taste. oh well. I hope you have fun “rockin’ out” to Franz Ferdinand.
