Admittedly, this idea comes after reading so much for so long on CC. Haha. Though often true with people in real life too.
If you’re a human being, chances are you are a “snob” about something. A type of car. Where you eat. What purse you carry. Organic only. Refusal to take public transportation. First class only. Fancy brand coffee (no Folgers for you!)
These could be seen as preferences. But in many cases a “snob” just won’t consider many alternatives EXCEPT a certain one they use/like. Also, this is just for fun. Poke fun at yourself.
What are you a snob about? ( I have to still think about mine…)
Hiking boots. Camping equipment. Perfect tent camping sites when we camp. (Why go if not in an ideal spot for what we like?) The last part goes for renting condos too.
Choosing not to go to Starbucks or some other “in” chain places (not a boycott - just not following the crowd).
Well, I am posting on College Confidential, so let’s acknowledge that I am an intelligence and elite college snob!
My husband and I met through a personal ad dating site that was limited to graduates of the nation’s top colleges. Says it all.
(In fairness- before that, I had answered and posted personal ads in Newsday and New York Magazine, requesting someone who was “highly educated,” and after over 50 dates, many with people who sounded like they would be intellectually curious because they were doctors or lawyers or whatever, I still was not finding an intellectual peer. My husband was only my second date within the top college organization, and I was his first date through them, and voila! We are at 23 years of marriage so far.)
Gas station cappuccino is beneath me, but I can’t think of anything else I am snobby about. My snob bar is set pretty low. Well now I remember feeling aghast and a bit snobby when my old friend and I went food shopping for a weekend trip and she picked up a loaf of plain white bread - not artisan, not locally made, not a speck of fiber. I had no idea she was like that.
I know I am a snob about some things but can’t think of what right now.
I do feel like everyone is probably a snob about something. I volunteer at a local food bank and have become friendly with a few of the clients. We live in a pretty nice town that has a reputation for having a lot of snobs and we are next to a not so nice town. One of my homeless friends is 70 and lives on the beach in our town and has for almost 20 years. Last year someone helped him get his social security payments. We talked about it and I mentioned he could probably now afford to rent a place in the next town. He said he would rather be homeless than live in that town! :)) He is a big joker (he likes to tell people I’m not homeless, I’m an outdoorsman!) but it did crack me up, even our town’s homeless people are snobs!
Edited to add I hate that our town has that reputation although it can be true - took me a long time to find normal friends here but they do exist!
Probably cars. After trying many brands in our early years we settled on Lexus sedans. Comfortable, reliable, and a no-brainer purchase (base models come with almost everything). We buy lightly used ones.
However, I’m extremely tempted by the Tesla Model S … but just can’t pull that big of a trigger yet. I really like the idea of no moving parts in an automobile.
Grammar snob. I have to hold myself back from correcting people’s grammar and I’m consistently torn over whether to use the correct but insufferable “one” or “he/she” or grammatically incorrect but colloquial “they.” Unfortunately my kids don’t benefit from my restraint. “Can I borrow the car?” “I’m sure you’re quite capable but I think you’re asking if you may borrow the car.” Sometimes I annoy even myself.
Manners, especially table manners snob… no excuse not learning about how to eat politely across a wide cultural spectrum
Youtube can teach anyone manners to everyone traveling anywhere in the world
