What lets College Board decide?

As some of you may know, there is no official body that regulates the English language as there are for some other languages. So on some of the writing questions there can be discrepancies between what College Board says is the correct answer and everyone says is the correct answer (because there’s no one to actually say what is correct English besides common sense stuff), but so if you lost points and it negatively affected you didn’t get into a school/program/didn’t get scholarship, would there even be recourse (you are taking their test so they can do what they want)? Just wondering!

Again, this comes back to the fundamental question, Are these tests really fair? Studies shown income correlates the most with higher SAT scores.
However, there is no recourse, there is no compensation. As of today’s college atmosphere, you have 3 options.

 1. Live with it and learn CB’s rules as much as you can.
 2. Switch to ACT
 3. Go to test optional school.

So yes, your point is valid, but not pragmatic.

You decide to take their tests. They have their own procedures and rules. If you think a question is unfair, appeal it. It’s still their discretion.
