<p>With the current music’s abundance of rhyme and paucity of melody, I have found my Ds downloading my music onto their ipods. Oldest Daughter is currently loading Feelin’ Alright the very best of Traffic.</p>
<p>Beatles, one has all, the other only the post Help era. Pink Floyd, Hendrix, selected CSN&Y and Who, Led Zeppelin, a little Queen and Kansas, Dylan, Tom Petty, and I’m sure I’ll think of others. We’re in the throes of financial aid forms. (Yes, we’re late - I guess procrastination runs in the family.)</p>

<p>But I also just recently put together a cd with some really goofy 80s stuff for one of her care boxes. Who could forget…</p>

<p>My daughter has most of Bob Dylan through Desire on her iPod. She can debate “which is the best Dylan album?” pretty intelligently. Also, Joni Mitchell (mainly Hejira and Blue) and The Velvet Underground. She also likes American Beauty a lot, but that’s more because of Freaks and Geeks than its presence in her parents’ record collection. Also Led Zeppelin, thanks to Almost Famous.</p>
<p>She likes late 80s proto-indie rock a lot – The Replacements, The Pixies – but that really wasn’t my music at all.</p>
<p>Camelia – The Only Ones?!? And I didn’t know any American knew who they were but me, and I’m probably one of the few that actually saw them in concert! Your dad has EXCELLENT taste. So do you.</p>
<p>I’m not actually American—maybe that’s why.

For 17 y/o it’s mostly Led Zeppelin, though he did add The Crusaders “Street Life” to his shuffle, despite hearing me bellow along with it here in the kitchen.</p>
<p>Oh, yeah. My son is in love with The Clash. Not so much any other music of his parents generation.</p>
<p>I liked the Joni Mitchell NYT article, but every time I read about her I come away with the sense that (a) she is an incredible blowhard/diva, and (b) she would not be a nice person to hang out with. I worship the first 15 years or so of her career, though. In some ways, I think she’s more important to popular music than Dylan.</p>
<p>The really, really interesting NYT article today was the magazine piece on General Tso’s Chicken. Also the article about Tariq Ramadan. Him I’d like to meet.</p>

<p>I totally agree with the second sentence. And, as much as her music meant to me when I was growing up, when I think back on interviews with her that I’ve heard, I probably agree with the first sentence, as well.</p>

<p>Haha, I think I must be the one who has it backwards. I am seventeen and am rather fond of music from the 60s and 70s (some earlier stuff too). Right now I’m most partial to the Band (I could give a more full list of artists I like pre-1980, but it would be way to long).</p>
<p>Anyway, my dad recently took a look at my iPod and rediscovered all the music he used to like… it has now migrated onto his iPod.</p>
