Hey guys. I just came across this forum from a google search. Obviously i’ve been doing a lot of reading across the different topics and there’s definitely a lot of useful information that is going to help me as i start the application process.
Basically, i just graduated from a pretty good high school in Nigeria. I’m currently preparing for my Cambridge exams. SAT scores just came out i got a 2180
Math 780
CR 740
Writing 660

I didn’t do too well in my writing since i’m not exactly an english specialist. I’m also the valedictorian of my school and i went through all my previous education of full academic scholarships. I’m not really mr. sports guy but i played intra moral sports in high school. I have a lot of EC’s and community service. This is just a basic profile of me.

Technically, i would love to go to the ivy’s or one of the top schools but the major problem is that i come from a pretty cash strapped family so i know that right now, i’m open to any school with a reliable engineering program that is willing to pay my whole fees; tuition, fees and board. If i don’t get a full scholarship, theres no way i could make it out of here.
Anyone have any ideas on which schools i should target based on my grades/profile and my current target of full scholarship? Any advice would be super helpful. thanks a lot

your SAT scores are very good, you are a valedictorian and you have good ECs - you should have a good shot at ivy level schools. money will be a problem though and you ought to narrow down your search to schools that are need-blind for internationals (very few) or schools that give out a lot of fin aid (LACs).

If you need a safety:
You seem to be qualified to receive a full scholarship (tuition, room, board, book allowance) at the University of New Orleans. It has a college of engineering but I don’t know how good their engineering program is.

nameuser, you’re SAT scores are awfully similar to mine. I scored 790 in Critical Reading, 730 in Math, and 670 in Writing.
I too need plenty of financial aid.
Ec’s? I don’t have much. Just one that’s really good, but my school didn’t have any of those American school activities, like Badmington Club President, or Public Relations CEO, Chess Club Founder, etc. My school had NO activities.

Anyway, I’d recommend you to look for LAC’s. That’s what I’m going to do. Apply to a bunch of colleges and hope that at least one gives you the money you need.
