What should I do during summer?

I am finishing up 9th grade next month. GPA will be about 3.9. I am trying to figure out what to do for summer. I will not be attending any of the summer programs discussed here. Haven’t applied to any. Thought about “Do you want to be an Engineer?” at Brown but I didn’t take Trignometry yet and they say it is recommended. My dad is asking me to take Algebra II in a local summer school to accelerate to Precal in 10th grade. He also said I could take SAT Prep classes at the same school instead, to prep for PSAT. I thought PSAT is taken in October of 11th grade. I would be interested in doing it seriously to see if I can qualify for NMHS. The school I am currently attending doesn’t offer many AP classes or Honors classes. So, there is the thought of taking SSAT by the end of the year to transfer to a Prep school in 11th grade. So many things to think of. What to do?

depends if you want to take so much math or not- don’t do it if your parents force you.

Most definitely take Alg 2 during the summer. There’s nothing more rewarding then sitting in a pre calculus class filled with juniors and you’re a sophomore. My freshmen year I doubled up and took geometry and algebra 2. Also yes prep for the PSAT. Do whatever you can to be ready for a preparatory school. Good luck

I honestly don’t think you really need to prep for the PSAT if you’re still a freshman - do it the summer before junior year. You can take the PSAT in soph year, but your score doesn’t count and you’ll have to re-take it during junior year anyway.
