What Should I Do If I'm Waitlisted?

at three ivies…

Other than sending back the RSVP card, what else can I do? Should I call and bug them, or inundate them with stuff (unless the school specifically asks not to send in anything more). What should I do?

I’m new to this waitlisting thing, so any advice is appreciated.

do everything except being a pest

^What he said…

Besides, what are you currently doing? Are you out of school pursuing a gap year (like I am) or a graduating senior? If you’re the former, I’d suggest establishing a rapport with one of the admissions team, and inundate - to use your word - them with updated information, all the while expressing your extreme desire to join their college. I’m doing that anyway.

If you’re the latter, I’d suggest establishing a rapport with one of the admissions team (again), and inundate - to use your word - them with updated information, all the while expressing your extreme desire to join their college. Involve yourself in some new activities, anything new-fangled or community service-based (which could be one of the reasons why Rishabh’s and my application were waitlisted), and report them. But don’t, as Vassar says (in my waitlist letter), embark on a ‘campaign’ to get admission, since that will actually lower your chances to get in. One more letter of support from a teacher can’t hurt, but don’t get too many. Also, resist the temptation to call them, or to ask your teachers and friends to call them. A weekly, or even demi-weekly, update is enough.

And, most of all, be happy that you’re waitlisted at the Ivies. I wish I were. Instead, only Liberal Arts colleges waitlisted me (Vassar, Oberlin, Middlebury, Trinity - I call them my VOMiT colleges). Bah. Well, anyway, I like Liberal Arts.

(I’m good at dispensing advice, but not actually performing it. If the above works, tell me. Though I’ll be trying too. :))
