What should I do?

Hi guys. First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted to their schools.

I have a question regarding how to use my ED application.

I really love Columbia all around and I would like to apply ED there. But I am applying to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford… etc. and if I get accepted at some of those other schools I might go there just for the name. I know. Don’t just go for the label. But those schools are good enough to be my first choice anyways.

If I get accepted to Columbia, that would mean I have to withdraw all other applications to every other university. If events lay out like that, not only do I not get to go to Harvard, for example, but also lose the opportunity to know whether I would be accepted or not. To my Asian family back in Asia, Harvard or Yale is the only namable university they would recognize by name, so I would like to know if I would be accepted to those institutes for them to be proud.

Please understand my ridiculous situation. Not that my situation is ridiculous, what’s ridiculous is how I’m handling it. I’m ashamed to even post this.

GOOD LUCK CANADIAN STUDENTS CLASS OF 2015!!

Sigh. Applying to a university for nothing other than its name is ridiculous, and it will show through your application (essays).

There’s no sizable benefit to applying Single Choice Early Action to HYPS – it’s about as hard as during the regular decision round.
