What sort of scholarships can I get for UCs or Calstates?

I do not need financial aid but I am wondering if I would be able to get any substantial scholarships just based off stats or anything?

Checking for clarification…you don’t need any money but you want money? Is that correct? In other words you don’t qualify for need based aid?

Your stats are posted elsewhere. If you put them on this thread with your question, it will be easier for those in the know about CA scholarships to give you answers.

@thumper1 Yes I am trying to make my tuition as little as possible.

Stats:

Un-weighted GPA: 3.92
UC GPA: 4.25

SAT: 2100
Math and Reading Only: 1440

SAT II’s:
Math II: 800
Chemistry: 720

For UC’s, usually the only scholarships available are Regents which range from $2500-6000 dollars. UCR does offer 3 scholarships for high STATS applicants ($2500-$10K). Cal States have many different scholarships available but you need to check each Cal State’s website for more information. My younger son is attending SDSU and after accepting their offer, he was given a link to apply to some scholarships based upon his major.
Most of the financial aid available from the UC’s and Cal States would be in the form of Cal Grants, Pell Grants, Blue and Gold Plan (income <$80K) and loans. Scour the Financial aid and Scholarships threads for more information.

There are not a lot of really big scholarships at UCs and CSUs. Drake for Berkeley mechanical engineering students, Stamps at UCLA, President’s at CSULB (competitive for in-state valedictorians or NMFs) are known examples. There may also be one at UCSD for engineering majors.

Regents’ scholarships vary by campus. For example, Berkeley replaces student contribution (loans/work, usually up to around $8,500) with grants, or gives $2,500 for those with no financial need. But other campuses’ Regents’ scholarships give different amounts.

Your SAT score of 2100 is not competitive for scholarships at the UC’s. I don’t know about the Cal states. There is limited money for California and it is spread thin. National Merit winners get first dibs and its not that much. Son got full ride at Davis, by missing 2 questions on SAT, but UCLA was ½ tuition, USC was ½ tuition. Your 2100 is average for some students applying to the upper tier UC’s.

I know one student with your stats who got 10k Regents at UCR this year (I don’t know if local area contributed to that or not, this was a full need student with special circumstances and I don’t know if that contributed or not). Accepted but no regents to UCI, UCLA, UCB.
