<p>This is an oft-overlooked topic in the scramble to get to the US. And yet it can make a huge difference to one’s experience. As you can see, I am studying in Massachusetts, and I must therefore confess my partiality to this state. There are a couple of big geographic areas in the US, all of which have very good academic institutions.
New England is formed by VT, NH, ME, MA, RI and parts of CT. It is a rather cold and snowy region so take that into account. It’s deffinitely the most European part of the US. Puritan mores can still be felt, albeit usually in very unlikely ways - try finding a store closing later than 10 in small-town New England (or even in Boston, for that matter of fact)! I really have to go to work now, but I can answer questions about New England (and potentially about the tri-state area - NY, CT and NJ) later.</p>
