What the differences between Institutes and colleges in Canada?

like British Columbia Institute of Technology
like Confederation college

Correct me if I’m wrong, but “Institutes of Technologies” in Canada can be thought of as colleges in the US, but more focused on STEM (think undergrad at MIT, but less selective for the most part) and “colleges” in Canada are equivalent to community colleges in the States. Cofederation College do not offer degrees, only diplomas and certificates.
