I got a giftcard for $50 from Pier 1 and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on what they buy/like at Pier 1? We aren’t much inter decor or entertaining. We have 2 kids away at college in LA at the moment.

Send it to me!

Last things I bought there were some wonderful placemats, plus a big wooden bowl on clearance.

We’ve bought some terrific bowls (ice cream/cereal size), placemats, and things like that at Pier1 (and we don’t entertain much either - these were just for us). They often have really interesting items that you don’t see everywhere else.

Thanks for these thoughts–I know there are many who LOVE Pier 1–my sister is among their great fans. I guess we’ll have to make a trip there & see whether there is anything that “strikes” us or we think would be great for the college kids.

Would welcome other suggestions of things folks LOVE at Pier 1.

They have nice pillows. I bought a couple there to spruce up my tired couch recently.

I bought some gorgeous cobalt blue stemless wine glasses there last year. I think they still carry them.

Reed diffuser room scents were on half off and are very nice

Just don’t let that giftcard sit in your drawer for a year. You never know what business might fold next.

[PIR UPDATE 3-Pier 1 posts wider loss, faces possible delisting](http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/2092137/)

Thanks–yea I noticed the same thing & will try to use up ALL my giftcards in the near future, given the current economy.

I will try to get the Pier 1 later this week so I can bring up whatever I find to the kids when I see them at the end of the month. May get a little something to add to their dorm rooms.

We were at Circuit City yesterday & again today. The crowd was very fierce yesterday & today we had the patience to actually purchase things (the line was much shorter). They were NOT honoring the prices in their newspaper ads so after it was rung up we had to go back downstairs & get them to do a price adjustment of what THEIR AD said the price was. It was time-consuming and irritating! We accidentally purchased two things that hubby thought were on ad but weren’t and they wouldn’t match other stores’ ads since they are liquidating. All in all, we will be sure to steer clear of them for the future. Hubby is cured of trying to find a bargain at that store!

Throw pillows, candle holders, scented candles, picture frames, poster frames, pitchers.

Feel free to send that Pier 1 card my way. ;)

It’s one of the few places you can get authentic director chairs, and canvas seat and back replacements when your old ones are faded. (I have them on a sunny patio)

HIMom, Circuit City’s fire sales are handled by several companies specializing in this kind of stuff. It is typical for them to raise the “original” price and then sell an item at a 20% discount so the customer thinks that he got a bargain.

To answer your question, in the past I bought candles, Christmas decorations, vases, glasses.

I buy their woven bamboo trays, candles, placemats, and rugs. I have Pier One rugs in my kitchen right now–a nice way to add some color and comfort to the hardwood floor! Also have their director chairs on my screened porch, Sequoia! You’ll have no problem spending that gift card!!

Yea, those liquidator-types are pretty nasty and the lines were simply horrendous for over-priced junk yesterday. I couldn’t believe the long, long lines folks were willing to stand in for inflated prices!

“We have 2 kids away at college in LA at the moment.”

Give the gift card to them! We bought a set of everyday wine glasses for cheap. Love them. We’ve also purchased candles and storage items. Their cloth items are nice if they fit your decor.

I LOVE Pier One candles–great sizes and colors!

HImom - did you go to their website to get some ideas of what might grab your attention?

Last time I was there I bought a small endtable with three baskets inserted…great for our spare room and for tucking things in the baskets.

We got a great wine rack, stools for the kitchen bar, end tables, lamps, curtains, throw pillows, a rug, candles, Christmas ornaments, wreaths, glasses, plates, and clothes. Yes, they used to sell clothes.

ds got new gf really cute etched martini glasses as housewarming gift…the mini-martinis are now $3.98/ set of 4 per website - 4 different patterns…
