what to do to boost chance of admission? (deferred)

<p>so I am deferred by Yale…
and now I want to do some constructive thing to boost the chance of admission in the RD round
So I will update my EC along with my mid-year report.</p>

<p>I heard someone said increasing family contribution (I applied for aid) would increase the chance, and my father thinks he can loan money from our relatives so that we won’t need any FA.</p>

<p>but given that Yale is need-blind, I assume the admission committee won’t even know how much less FA I ask. So will it help?</p>

<p>Loaning money instead of applying for FA would be a terribly stupid thing to do, considering that Yale is need-blind. There isn’t very much you can do at this point. Write a short letter reaffirming your intentions to enroll at Yale and keep them in the loop about any new accomplishments since you submitted your initial application.</p>

<p>DO NOT APPLY FOR LOANS FOR THAT. You don’t want to be in $200,000 of debt for a need-blind school. It’s not worth it.</p>

<p>Unless any big things happen in the next couple of months I don’t think sending anything else is a good idea, I’m sorry.</p>

<p>They actually don’t finalize your FA award first. They first decide whether you’re eligible for admission based on all other application factors. I guess as they are ‘need blind’, FA wouldn’t be a problem.</p>

<p>For strengthening your RD chances, try sending them a short essay on why you love Yale and why you want to attend it. You may also try for a interview if you haven’t had one. I think they have alumni in China who can interview you. If you haven’t sent any supplementary materials, try sending a research paper or a piece of writing that may seem to help.</p>

<p>omega007 is absolutely right. Many international applicants are perceived to be “gaming” the system, by applying EA Yale and then still holding out for like Harvard or Princeton RD even if they get into Yale, which is supposedly their top choice school…</p>

<p>You need to make a very firm commitment; if Yale really is your absolute dream school, tell them that if you are accepted you will automatically drop all other apps and take up a place in New Haven. Don’t necessarily just lard an essay up with more reasons with why you love Yale, because you should already have communicated that in your initial app; if you were a particularly strong applicant, they may have deferred you because they thought you weren’t all that interested in Yale, and would rather go elsewhere.</p>

<p>remember that the chinese pool is possibly the most competitive in the world - and the EA admits attend with very high yield, because they simply do love Yale over every other college in the world…(I might add that on the admitted students site, on the Blue Marble part, it lists 7 ppl admitted from China thus far)</p>
