What to expect In senior year?

other than the fact that I’m going to be busy with applications, transcripts, hearing from colleges about being accepted or not, or the senior year project, is it going to be good? I’m looking to make all a’s throughout the year, not looking forward in falling for any of the drama or “senioritis”. I also look to get all my community service hours, take at least 1 to 2 more rigorous courses, and to send an ACT score with at least a 27(my goal is to hit a 30). Not sure what my UW gpa is, but I’m estimating it’s a 3.05 right now, and I look to get it up over a 3.1 before the second semester of senior year. Will everything fall in place or is it just going to be the most stressful year of high school?

Senior year is what you make it; I know some people who ended up not enjoying their senior year (partially for reasons beyond their control, partially for reasons they could have fixed), and others loved it. Personally, I enjoyed senior year and don’t have many regrets. For some people, it’s THE most stressful year, for others, it’s a breeze. All depends on you and your classes and everything else going on in your life.

Senior year definitely is stressful to some degree, even if you’re trying to make it as stress-free as possible. Since it’s your last year of high school and there are a lot of facets to graduating and final stuff like that, there are always things to do (lots of payments for graduation gown, senior trip, etc. plus sending transcripts and keeping up with classwork.) I can’t just tell you things will “fall in place,” because chances are, they won’t. You’ll be stressed out and not everything will go perfectly. There are many things that are beyond your control…I had a few classmates who really struggled at the beginning of the year just because they had various issues to deal with beyond their control, and that’s the way life goes.

But instead of solely focusing on school and trying to make sure everything goes perfectly, make sure you do plenty of things with your friends and enjoy your senior year…yes, it’s stressful, but it can also be a lot of fun if you get involved with any senior activities your school offers and do the “last” of everything…go to your last home football game ever, go to prom, etc.

Everyone experiences some degree of senioritis. I didn’t understand it either until near the end of school. Once AP tests were over, I definitely relaxed a bit. I still did my work but didn’t really put much effort in. I still got an A- or better in 6 AP classes though. It’s not like your grades are going to drastically drop and there is nothing you can do about it, but you will definitely lose at least a little motivation at some point.
