What to wear- summer backyard reception.

I could go either way about the pearls. I sort of like the push and pull of pearls and denim.

Well poo.
The dress has an elasticized waist which hits right under the girls and because the skirt is pleated, it makes me look like Im pregnantish.
I dont usually wear petites, but because it was long, I thought it would save me hemming.

So back to the drawing board.
But GOOD News!!! :x
I took a chance and texted D that I was nervous about finding something to wear, not knowing if she would respond- (because I didn’t even really know it she wanted me there) And she texted me back with suggestions!
I feel much better!
<:-P

That is the best news.

I’m sorry the dress didn’t fit. Great news about your daughter, though. I pray this is the beginning of more good things to come EK!

So glad to hear that EK!!!

Great news, EK!

Yay to kiddo replying - and with suggestions.

I’ve been following this thread since I have a summer, outdoor wedding to go to, but the best part isn’t the clothing suggestions but that EK heard from her D. Great news.

Well , when I said I was not thrilled about dresses that showed my scar, she suggested leggings underneath.
I didn’t know if I wanted to go that casual, but it’s good to know she wouldn’t be offended if I was.
Im going to try and plan on a few different outfits, since it’s hard to say what the weather will be.
The year she graduated, it was in the '90’s, in May!

It’s an interesting issue with the dress. It can be so tough to find dresses that are flattering to boobs, not cleavage, not ‘out there’ low cut, but also the high necks can sometimes drape so wrong! I am sorry this one was one of the ‘wrong’ ones!

Congrats though on hearing from your DD!

Congrats on hearing from your D. :)

I say back to the nice linen or silk pants and top concept. (In my experience, petite dresses and tops rarely fit a buxom woman.)

I’m fashion-challenged so I won’t weigh in on that aspect, but congrats on hearing from your D! Such wonderful news

Congratulations on hearing from your D!!

Sorry that the dress did not work out. I know many of the ladies in my church wear white or colored pants with a tunic top (normally tory burch or sail to sable style, but anything that covers the backend works) and sandals for more casual receptions. It always looks very classy, put together, and effortless. I saw quite a few tory burch tunics on Ebay for steals the other day. Also, when it comes to dresses, many wear light, flowy maxi dresses or shift dresses. The maxi dress would cover any scars assuming they’re on your legs, and the shift dresses are pretty slimming and flatter almost anyone. I think leggings are a tad too casual for this occasion. You might also try Dermablend to cover the scar up if you’re worried about it.

^^ That’s also common go-to outfit in my area in summer for the past couple summers with “younger-olders” replacing the sundress. The older-olders have been wearing that for years and years. I guess it’s a right of passage with my troops – not wanting to expose the upper arms and the legs anymore sad to say. The tunic with white ankle pants and sandals.

The only scar i have is about 6" vertically across my kneecap from a knee replacement last year.
Half of it is pale and not noticable, & actually the top half isnt that bad, but 56 yr old knees arent that attractive anyway.
I may have a drawstring linen pants and tunic for backup in case it is really hot and sticky. I feel cooler covered up. Rather than having to put suntan lotion on constantly.
She suggested wearing something like for a restaurant bd.
I have a cute floral full skirted dress that would work, but I just looked at the cashmere sweater i usually wear with it & there are moth holes!
I dont know why some attract moths and others dont. And it is across the back, so it seems it would look noticable if I mended it.
I have to start putting things in my cedar chest.

There are some really pretty tunic tops on this site…Check them out if you are considering that look.

^ I love that Catherine top; now if I could only look like that too :-)

Oh yes, Soft Surroundings has some really pretty tunic tops that don’t cost an arm and leg either. The one Beil gave a link to would be perfect.

It does look pretty.
Since we will be down for a few days, I will need several outfits.
And I just found out that younger Ds bf will be coming, so it will be a real family party. :)

Regarding moth holes, I keep my cashmere in a cedar drawer under my bed and moths still got several of my sweaters. If anyone knows a secret to keeping them away, please PM me or let us all know.
