What Universities Could I Get Into?

Preface:
I would LOVE to get into UC Berkeley, or any of the UCs. I also would love to get into CalPoly SLO. However, as I asked “What Universities Could I Get Into?” I will be taking any suggestions of where I should go. It would mean the world to me if I got in, but I know universities generally do not care for that kind of passion.

Info:
I have, as of right now, a 3.9 unweighted GPA, a 4.4 W GPA, and 3rd in my class. However, my SAT scores are pretty, let’s say… crap (layman’s terms). 1600/2400. I’m seriously not a good test taker, so I doubt I’ll get any higher on it.

Question(s) is/are:
If I keep my SAT score the same, and I increase my GPA (both UW and W), what universities could I get into? Will my GPA outweigh the SAT scores? What matters the most: should I focus on my GPA and keep it up, or let it slip and focus on SAT scores?

SAT will lower your chances at many of the UC’s and SLO depending upon intended major. For the UC’s, UCR/UCM and UCSC are good target schools. A little more difficult would be UCSB/UCI/UCD. SLO is possible if you are not considering Engineering. I would also look at SDSU/CSULB/SJSU/CSUF and CPP for good match/safety schools.

If you can raise that SAT up to around 1900, you would have a better chance at the Mid-tier UC’s. You should also consider the ACT. My son’s did much better on the ACT vs SAT. Keep up your GPA, since this is the most important factor for the UC’s but you still need competitive test scores.

Much will depend upon intended major. Also with the UC’s, essays and EC’s are considered so they can give your application a boost.
