I’ve going into freshman year and have never really worn watches before. I’m looking into buying one for about $100-200 dollars though but don’t really have a clue what brand or style to get. Is there a specific watch or even brand that’s in style right now or at least a good quality brand?

Watches are not in style.

Worry less about what’s in style and just get what will work best for you.

Lol, well I don’t know anything about watches but want to start wearing them so I need to start off somewhere and usually when something is in style, it is a good quality, good value piece. I need to start somewhere…

Not at all. Lots of things are in style that are just junk. Go to Target and pick out something that you like.

Swatch makes good watches. I’ve got a Swatch that I’ve had since freshman year of high school… about six years ago. Still works.

The chunky style Michael Korrs watches are quite popular with the college crowd around here. I personally prefer a sleeker style, but then I am old as the hills!

Assuming you’re a guy, rectangular face, leather strap.

I actually have style. Gshocks are in. Go to karmaloop.com and look at their watches…alot of nice ones.

Here’s a photo of my watch. Has a small scuff or two on the face but I call it character. No I’m not wearing it upside down ;)

e: Not that I care about what’s “in” but I think watches are one of the things you should never buy based on what’s “in.” Because everybody’s gonna have what’s “in”… stand out instead, that’s what I see a watch as. An accessory that is somewhat unique to you, not something for blending in with the crowd.

You probably already have a pocket watch – your cell phone.

My friend wears a Kermit the Frog watch that he probably got in a Happy Meal or something like that. Needless to say, everybody gives him props for it.

Can’t go wrong with a class diver’s watch - even better if it’s all stainless steel, crown and bracelet.

Invicta and Fossil have some affordable and rugged watches in the style, unisex too.

What I have.

I’m with Dwalker. Get a Gshock.

Yes they are.

If you’re on a budget get lower end Nixon, if you have cash to spend get a G-Shock.

i’ve never understood the fascination with G-Shocks

You should check out timex.com. They have some nice watches for a reasonable price. I really like the Timex weekender.

G-Shock seems to be the consensus although I’ve never really heard of them. Do most college kids wear that sporty type over the metal type? Also what do you guys think of this one?

That is a nice one. Black and red are good colors too. Gshocks look great and are much more comfortable than a metal watch, and they are waterproof too. I feel like I am doing an infomercial or something, but they are that awesome.
