What will my GPA be?

Okay… I’m in eighth grade and we had a substitute teacher on Friday so he didn’t hand out our report cards and I don’t want to wait till Monday to find out what my GPA will be. I’m thinking around a 3.7.

Art - A
Core Explore - A+
Social Studies - A+
Band - A
Science - A
English - A-
Algebra - C+ (!!.. first C ever on a report card)

3.66 (10 char)

and since you got all A’s besides that, you’re still doing pretty well. :)

You’d have a 3.57 at my school.

4
4
4
4
3.7
2.5
=22.2

22.2/6=3.7

using my school’s GPA formula

by the totally standard scale i got 3. 66. 4 points for every A, and 2 points for the C. my school dosn’t count pluses or minuses.

At my school this is the formula:

A - 4
B - 3
C - 2
D - 1

The +'s and -'s differ, so I don’t know…

I used this calculator http://www.everyday-education.com/gpacalc/index.shtml

and it says it’s a 3.71

By my school’s scale:

4
4
4
4
4
3.7
2.3
26

26/7= 3.71 Right. :)

you’re very lucky that you’re only in 8th grade.

instead of fretting about what number your GPA is, i suggest you get a tutor or a review book for algebra and spend some extra time in that subject since you are doing well in everything else

Wow…a C in Algebra, is it really that hard because I don’t remember that it was that way.

I’ve been getting A’s all my life in math classes, and Algebra I is considered advanced at my school. I don’t really like the teaching style of the instructor, and I actually prefer the way the substitute teacher teaches when the regular teacher misses school. However, I do realize that I am accountable for my grade.

Yes, I do need to buy an algebra review book, especially before if I go to prep school next fall.

Your substitute teacher teaches?!

Yeah, you definitely need to review Algebra, or you’ll probably be screwed for Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus…but you don’t need a review book, just buy an old textbook online (preferably used since it’s cheaper). Textbooks are better (unless you can’t understand them, in which case by all means use a review book).

You’d have a 3.93 UW GPA at my school…

no, Tutors don’t really improve your ability…they just help you see and learn concepts…you might not be good at math naturally…As don’t indicate “ease”, they could indicated a lot of “work” as well. Keep that in mind.

Gee, your Algebra teacher sounds just like the one I had my freshman year. Def. get some review, a book or even another teacher that you understand better- (doesn’t have to be a tutor, just another math teacher in your school that knows the subject & can explain better-I found this option to be very helpful!) because Algebra does play into other stuff (yea, learning that the hard way right now!)
By the way, on our school’s system you’d get a 3.71

You’re in 8th grade?
And you’ve been a member since Fall of 05?
So you started college searching in the begining of 7th grade?

Christ.

Not really college searching, I don’t even really remember why I first joined, but know I mostly post in this forum, the cafe, and prep school admissions.

Thanks, everyone!

are those your semester grades? b/c that algebra credit can count toward your high school GPA

I got my report card today and my grades were as follows:

Marking Period 1: Marking Period 2: Exam Grades*: Semester Grades:

Computers: A- Art: A- — A-
Core Explore: A+ Core Explore - A A A
Social Studies: A+ Social Studies - A+ B A+
Band: A+ Band: A+ — A
Science: A Science: A B+ A
Language Arts: A- Language Arts: A- C (!!) B+
Algebra: B B- D (!!) C+

MP1 GPA - 3.857 MP2 GPA - 3.833 Final Semester 1 GPA: 3.5

*Exams are 20% of our semester grade.

Does the semester GPA make sense to you guys?

Would you look at that! Algebra was my C+ class, too, in middle school. It’s just one of those classes that I never felt the need to apply myself to, so I can see where you’re coming from. (And does it really matter, actually, in middle school?)
