I would participate in extracurriculars that demonstrate my passion for something, get an unweighted 4.0 GPA, do well on my SAT, have a rigourous schedule all four years of high school, write awesome yet unique essays, have great teacher reccomendations and win awards on the national/regional level.
Yep, that’s what I’d do to get into Brown. :)

Aside from doing anything negative to others, or causing myself severe and permanent bodily harm… I would do anything.

And RenegadeJ… dear god that is insane! I hope you get in without having to do those things.

Thanks, but I dont think what I would do is nearly as bad as some other people’s.

RenegadeJ, your previous post scared me o_o
That being said, I would diss Chuck Norris to get into Brown.
-now expecting a giant roundhouse kick-

I wonder if Brown admissions has read through this thread. If they haven’t, they should. It’s really pretty hilarious :D

I would watch 17 Again 17 times.

I’d audition for the broadway version of high school musical.

P.S. I’m a dude.

I would wear a Brown sweatshirt everyday for a year and…actually listen to Justin Bieber’s CD(it’s worth it for Brown). O.o

Wear a sandwich board on the Brown campus.

I would give up gum forever.

donate 1mil

I would do well in school and then fill out an application. Seriously, you kids are crazy.

I lol’d. Hard.

Would la russian roulette with charlie sheen and other crazy people…not really

I would actually watch this video from beginning to end (PAINFUL…):

[YouTube - Rebecca Black - Friday (OFFICIAL VIDEO)](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

I drove 3 hours in a blizzard (A trip that normally should take 20 mins) for my Brown interview. I <3 Buffalo

Here is what I actually did (aside from the grades etc.)
Keep in mind this is no joke…

Gave up all love life (including my “special alone time”) for 1 week before decision day
Stopped eating 5 days prior to decision day
Stopped drinking (alcohol) on date of application submission
Did not go on any website other than the brown webpage after date of submission
Gave up all music except brown school songs on date of submission (downloaded these to my iPod)
Memorized all school mottos etc.
Wore the same pair of brown university boxers for 1 month
Stayed with my body facing only towards Rhode Island for 3 days prior to decision day (this involved walking backwards a lot!!!)
Slept on brown university sheet set for one year prior to application submission
Stayed awake for 48 hours before the decision was announced
Did not shave, cut hair, or clip finger/toenails after submitting application
Did not shower 1 week prior to decision
Did not use my cellphone after date of application submission

I promise you I did all those things… there are probably a few rituals I am forgetting

Verdict:

WAITLIST

tell everyone i get into harvard if i didn’t

@bobbyLOL I got into Brown off the wait list. There’s hope.

@trebleinparidise

Any advice? How did you do it? I’m waitlisted at Brown as well and am hoping there’s still a chance for me to get in too.

I love this thread, because it shows how desperately we want to attend Brown.

Some of the things on this thread just seems absurd, and some really crazy- something not worth doing for a school.

But, I guess I will have fun with this thread topic, but not all my reasons, and doings were only to just attend Brown. Some were for my self-development and community service in a broader sense. I want to write something more sensible and encouraging. So here we go:

I traded my soccer career dream (was training to become a pro) in 7th grade for a dream to enter into a US top school.

I got all A’s on a home schooling program without a teacher. My parents don’t speak English very well, so I helped myself. This helped me to transfer to a different school with a scholarship in 8th grade.

I left all my friends and family in China, and went to Thailand, a foreign country to study so that I could better prepare myself for college admission. (I lived in a poor area in China, and there wasn’t a proper school to attend.)

I flew to a different city (Chiang Mai to Bangkok) to take the SAT II Chinese (because Chiang Mai doesn’t have a SAT II Chinese test for certain test dates.)
I took the SAT four times.

I slept around 5-6 hours everyday during my junior year to study.
I spent an average of 6 hours everyday studying.

I took AP classes, without having the capabilities to do well in them. (I ended up getting mostly 5s with tremendous effort)

I was rejected from my high school admissions twice.
But, I was able to attend my high school with a recommendation from my 8th grade teacher. The shocking thing is, I graduated with honors, and was elected as sophomore rep, Junior president, and student council president (these positions were big challenges)

I worked my butt off in soccer, and futsal, eventually becoming futsal captain. But I gave up being a soccer captain my senior year because I wanted to focus on my application process.

I gave up time with my friends and family for four years for this admission. I skipped numerous dorm parties, friend’s birthday parties, and sweet hangout opportunities to spend that time improving my chance of admission.

I lived a busy and productive life even thought sometimes I hated how busy and tired I was.

I flew to Korea for a SAT prep-course for two summers, waking up at five thirty in the morning to go to these sessions. (What a self-inflicted pain)

I applied my senior year, and received 11/13 rejections. I couldn’t afford one college so, I went to my thirteenth-choice college to transfer to Brown.

I will receive my Brown decision on Mid-May…

And, I hope for the best…

Some of these things are really really crazy… like going from a rejectee to student council president? WTHeck? Flying to a different city to take a test? Leaving family to go to a different country for a high school? Well, I wanted it badly, and I had to make sacrifices.

So if there is anyone out there thinking… “I did this much for a school and I still got rejected” Well, guess what? I got thirteen rejections after all this trouble. But, I didn’t lose hope because I believed that “You can’t lose until you quit.” And I think neither should you lose hope if you are pursuing your dream.

Best wishes to all of you who waited and are waiting for the admission decision as crazy people, staring at the computer screen day and night … just waiting… waiting… waiting… waiting…
