What you make of Joe Jackson?

Joe Jackson appeared fashionably late at some hollywood function tonight and his behaviour seemed strange and may provide some clues of what some have said about him as matriarch of the Jackson clan.

All decked out in feather hat and oversize wraparound sunglass, Joe Jackson said nonchalantly “everyone is doing well” when asked how his family is doing, as if NOTHING had happened. He was seen smiling broadly. Then he let out a sentence about how Michael would have enjoy this if he were alive. Next he had some woman read off a Jackson family statement but never looked the camera himself. To cap it off, he siezed the opportunity to bring a new business partner in front of the camera to announce some new venture of his.
Could you have waited, Joe, another place and time maybe ?

When asked about Michael’s legacy he only said “the world has lost the greatest entertainer of all time” or something to that effect, never about losing a son.

Even Don Lemon, who is doing a fine and poised job for CNN, can’t help but commented it was strange that he did not seem like a grieving father.

Is he the man capable of those monstrous things he was supposed to have done to his children? You make up your mind. One thing I know for sure, you can’t really hide who you are, is Joe Jackson always looking for what he could gain from people. He slipped in a comment that he wish MJ would have been here to “enjoy” all this (goodness toward him in death). He’s either a shameless promoter, an intimidator or a twisted old man.

I have never seen him speak before, but I am sure that the man is in a state of shock. When my husband died, I am sure that some people could have said that I was too poised at his wake. I just don’t think that we, as spectators, have enough information here. Other than, I am sure the man is in a state of shock and perhaps chose to attend because his son was being honored and the fellowship might have helped him cope. JMHO.

Katherine Jackson is the matriarch. Joe Jackson is the patriarch.

But yeah, his comments were a little weird for someone who had just lost a child.

I’ll address only the “legacy” aspect now. While I hope MJ was a fine son, and I hope Joe was a fine Dad, I don’t think that’s what Joe was asked. I would interpret the meaning of “legacy” as meaning what info will be passed around and passed down about MJ. What will the public think when he hear his name a yr, or 10 yrs from now? Clearly, many of us know him as a singer, dancer, songwriter, and many know of his odd behavior and alleged homosexual child molestations. Only MJ’s parents know if he was a good son.

Thomas Edison died in '31, Steve McQueen died(at 50) in '80. When we think of them, do we immediately think “they were good sons”? I think of their inventions and acting performances. That is their legacy- the big famous part of their life that is remembered by the public years after they are gone.

How can you be at an award event, when your son just passed away… I just don’t get it. …

The event was a tribute to the son.

It was the BET awards…a scheduled awards show that included a lot of last minute Michael Jackson tributes (if you call Beyonce singing “Ave Maria” in her underwear a tribute!)

With the constant, open talk about how abusive Joe was, I thought the guy had passed on years ago. It will be interesting to see if Michael’s will awards custody of his kids to his mom - if you give the kids to Grandma, doesn’t abusive Grandpa come with the package?

Strange behavior indeed. Earlier in the day there were pictures of him laughing it up outside his compound. Mom4, I think there is more to his man that you don’t know. State of shock was not what I saw. Quite the contrary. And the fact he never said anything about loss of a son but only referred to him as an entertainer (thus money maker for the family) bothered me too. I am afraid for MJ’s children when they come into present of “bad” grandpa. That just adds saddness to this whole saga.

I don’t like Joe Jackson and I don’t like what he did to his kids. However, I don’t fault him for laughing and stuff, it could just be how he deals with grief.

I lost my best friend last year and we were laughing at her funeral. We were sharing old memories of her and her parents were there with us laughing the whole time. It was the way she would have wanted to be remembered. The same with my uncle when he died. He always made it clear that he wanted absolutely no tears at his funeral and we did our best to honor that. Different people just have different ways of dealing with grief.

I do think it’s odd that he never referred to Michael as a son, but perhaps it is too painful for him right now to admit that he lost a son. Either way, it’s not up to us to judge.

Nobody is judging Joe Jackson. I think we use that verbage too loosely to include any commentary. Because he is a public figure (that’s an official term) we can cast our opinion of him. It is obvious that Joe Jackson likes to grab the bright lights and promote himself. He is 80 yr old. MJ has made him a ton of money over the years. Couldn’t he hold up long enough to remain respectful while the world mourns. Joe’s mourning period is probably light years ahead of the rest of us. That is amazing.

By the way, I am afraid for MJ’s childs who will be around a con-man,abusive grandpa.

Jackson’s mom gets temp custody of the kids:

[Jackson’s Mother Wants Control Of Estate, Kids - Entertainment News Story - WJXT Jacksonville](http://www.news4jax.com/entertainment/19892346/detail.html)

Thats says she filed for it…the text from a news site says she was granted temp custody.

Because they’re honoring your son.

Wonder what he’ll be promoting at the funeral?

Jackson Family Videos ?

“How I whipped Michael into Shape” with vintage footage of Joe Sr whopping young MJ with a switch (how do you whip someone with a switch ? ) Electrical switches have sharp cutting edges. That must’ve caused lacerations.

^Not an electrical switch. A whippin (slang) switch is a very strong thin bendy stick (branch) that the “whipper” sends the “whippee” out in the back field (or backyard) to cut and bring to the “whipper” for the “whipping” punishment.

Where I come from, a “switch” is branches from a bush.

Crosspost

So is that what the kids refer to as a “switch hitter”?

^No. That is something TOTALLY different.

We were at a wedding reception last night, and the band played ABC. It got EVERYONE out on the dance floor. I knew I’d be missing the tribute last night, but a wedding reception triumphs.

Everything I’ve ever read about Joe Jackson leads me to think he is a monster - I could be wrong.
