What younger artists would you old fogies want to see?

I would love to see Coldplay…preferably in Buenos Aires! Or Paris…or London. I turn 50 this year and suggested this to my husband as an amazing birthday gift but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they are touring in 2019. I’m sure they don’t qualify as “younger artists” tho, but my kids don’t groan when I play them in the car. Of the younger set, I think I would enjoy seeing Mumford and Sons, Chainsmokers, and Post Malone.

^^^ I have seen Coldplay three times. I will see them now at any opportunity I can accommodate within reason and distance. For me, it is not a just a concert it is an experience.

That said, Coldplay formed as a band in 1996 - so, 22 years ago. Not new artists!

Keith Urban’s first album was in 1991 - 27 years ago!

I guess difference between “new” and "current’ artists.

@garland . I love Frank Turner. His live show is insane

Other young(ish) artists I like and have seen: Skinny Lister, Will Varley, the Arkells, the Metzingers, Homeless Gospel Choir

I’m generally not a fan of big arena concerts but Coldplay always puts on amazing, high quality shows.

Really? I could find out about tours on the internet? Oh, wait, I’d have to be sufficiently interested. Actually, I find going to concerts pretty stressful so I don’t actively look for them.

Re-read your post. I wonder why you typed it out if you aren’t sufficiently interested nor enjoy concerts. :-?? :-? Or even responding to this thread, then.

Ooh, I’d go see Mumford & Sons too. I got D tickets to see them in Chicago for Christmas.

Trivia about the moderator: back in 2005, Coldplay was the first concert I attended, back in the days when they were still doing smallish venues. I’ve seen them several times since, and even in the large stadiums, they always put on a great show.

“l would love to see Miley Cyrus! Crazy, but I think she is cool, talented, interesting.”

Me too. I think there’s a lot of prejudice against her because she has to fight to escape the Hannah Montana image. Her voice is amazing. And that version of Santa Baby she did on Jimmy Fallon is hilarious !

This thread demonstrates that some of the old fogies are older than the other old fogies. A spectrum or a gradient of old foginess of sort.

“I think there’s a lot of prejudice against her because she has to fight to escape the Hannah Montana image.”

She’s done a lot of attention-getting, stupid stuff. Some of it was pretty tasteless and unnecessary, IMO.

She was a kid who seems to have grown up over the years.

@jmnva06 --Seen Frank three times–some of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Also saw the Arkells and Homeless Gospel Choir because they opened for him (we must have seen the same tours). They were really good, too.

@garland . I suspect you are right. Spring 18 and winter 2017 are two tours I’ve seen.

I was also lucky and got to see his Tiny Desk Concert at NPR .

From the last tour, I also loved Lucero but since I’ve been seeing them for 10+ years I don’t think of them as young.

Further up someone mentioned last chance concerts. After Prince dying I started to think like that too. Seen New Order a couple of times recently, and also Echo And The Bunnymen. I’ll be seeing Spiritualized in the new year too.
Frank Turner is a good shout for young talent you’d like to see. I’ll add Fontaines DC who will be touring with Idles (who, while pretty new, might be too old for the category). Ferocious guitars and intelligent lyrics.

@jmnva06 --oh yeah, saw Lucero then too. They were good. Definitely the same two tours. Both times in NYC for me–Beacon Theater, then Playstation Theater. Both epic! (also saw him at an outdoor Stone Pony concert in double bill with Flogging Molly in 2016).

I like this thread, I thought a lot about it in Holiday traffic today! Years ago I said I’d never pay for radio, then we got a car with a Sirius radio trial and we’ve had it ever since. Besides when Howard Stern has Lady Gaga or Miley Cyrus sing in the studio (and made me appreciate their voices), I would love to see some bands I never would have heard without Sirius Alt Nation. Mumford & Sons, Muse, Young the Giant, Kings Of Leon, Foster the People. And completely agree, Coldplay two years ago, all ages, I’ve always liked them but amazing live band. Wish I saw them as much as @skieurope.

Every stadium in the US seems to be playing them during timeouts at this point.

I’d like to see Travis Scott, Post Malone, Eminem, Migos, Khalid, and more.

‘She’s done a lot of attention-getting, stupid stuff. Some of it was pretty tasteless and unnecessary, IMO.”

Gotta disagree. I don’t think there is anything “stupid” about dancing or dressing in a sexually provocative fashion when you are an adult. She was treated as though she’d done something wrong that caused harm to others. That I think was totally unfair. Driving drunk or misusing alcohol or drugs, saying things that cause others pain breaking the law, those are “ stupid “ things some entertainers do. She never did. The criticism was to me totally unfounded
