What your child said they wanted to be when they grew up vs. the reality

My D wanted to be a veternarian and an Olympic marathon runner when she was in middle school, both realistically within her realm of possibilities.

Due to some major health issues, she can still run but is not Olympic material. Now done with her freshman year of college, she has changed her mind to be a pediatric pulmonologist or a podiatrist, helping other sick kids or helping runners.

S, who turns 14 on Wednesday, has wanted to be a kindergarten bus driver forever. We have encouraged him to also become a mechanic so that he can fix the busses between routes.

DD wanted to be a midwife (after learning that she had been delivered by one). She’s now contemplating a career in psychiatry.
