Fetching food and then hosting a small dinner party at our place. On Sunday - who knows. Definitely some leaf raking at some point during this weekend. Maybe some tree planting - if we can find what we have been looking for (already planted a quince and a persimmon). Maybe some wine tasting in the middle of all of this.
Fun breakfast get together with a great group of women this morning. Picked up a new dog crate, ordered new furniture, lunch out. Tonight going to a vineyard to taste their wine and listen to a friend’s band. Tomorrow will have to be some chores.
DH and I went to a political rally & then submitted our absentee ballots at the county office. We’ll be away right before election day & this way we won’t have to worry about being back in time to vote. VA’s state legislature is on the ballot this year, so voting matters.
Textbook sunny fall day here. Washed and hung a load of bedding outside, probably last week of the year I’ll be able to do that. Bought my mother’s groceries and helped her put them away. Started wading through a pile of paperwork she gave me re upcoming appointments, RMDs, one account’s upcoming maturity and what to do next, etc. Scourged the house of trash and recycling, which DH just took to the dump. About to post on the bag-a-week thread after upcoming Goodwill run.
We are closing our cottage this weekend. It’s always a bittersweet time. The cottage is on an island & cannot be accessed again until April. We went into town to the hardware store this afternoon & decided to stop for a bite to eat and a beer. We had never been to this particular restaurant, which is a family-run bar/restaurant, and it turned out the owner used to have a cottage on our island. He knows my in laws well. We instantly were considered family, and everyone chatted with us. Another couple from the island came in, and we got to know them better. All in all, a great day!
Conference in the mountains Friday night-Saturday, with beautiful just-after-peak leaves (this morning’s drive with frost on the ground/mist and fog on the lakes/sun on the trees will be a long term memory).
Early anniversary dinner tonight at a new to us nice restaurant in town. Tomorrow morning, we have separate plans for our own interests.
AND WE TURNED ON THE HEAT. (finally!)
We rode our bikes 28 miles today, then came home and did some chores, and went out to dinner with friends we don’t see often.
Tomorrow I’m hoping to sleep until I wake up, then will do chores and go to the gym.
^^Sleeping until you wake up is such a luxury!
Today I coached 3 games and watched 3 of the MLS playoff games.
We have concert tickets tomorrow night so I will get in line fairly early to ensure we get our usual seats.
Visiting D at school and seeing her theater show
Heading up north yesterday with my parents and daughter to visit S19 at his college and watch his game. Dh stayed behind with S21 because it was his homecoming game/dance.
My parents wanted to see S19 play and see where he goes to school and this was the only weekend that worked for them. We were hoping to see some beautiful fall foliage on the drive but I guess like where we live, there hasn’t been enough rain up here this year so the colors are not very spectacular. Pretty in spots but nothing to rave about.
Took S19 out to dinner. His school is on fall break so campus is deserted and dining facilities are closed. Dropped him at a teammate’s offcampus house where they were watching football, then came back to hotel.
Got a text from D17, who is studying in Madrid, that simply said “protests turned violent today just a couple miles away but wanted to let you know I’m home safely.” Um, what? I couldn’t find any news about protests in Madrid, only Barcelona. Texted Dh, as he works in risk management industry, and he forwarded me the travel alerts. The protest was not too far from her school, and only 2 miles from her apartment. Not worried about it, but didn’t even realize what was going on!
Leaving shortly to take S19 for brunch, then going to walk one of the nearby trails if the rain holds off before we drop him off and head home. Not looking forward to driving down 95 this afternoon in what looks like will be (much needed) rain most of the way.
Up until midnight last night (Saturday) poring over my mother’s investment accounts, but I understand them now! They’re deferred annuities, which raise my personal hackles (no good reason, just intimidated along the lines of “Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain!”). I can see where they keep their brain now and am able to give my mother an intelligent interpretation. That’s been years in the works and is a huge load off.
Another wash load of bedding is hanging outside. Moved furniture in master bedroom to make way for new bookcases. Stopping for a breather and a cup of coffee before heading over to my mother’s. Trail walk with the dogs this afternoon! It’s bear season, and they’re large and black and long-coated. We’d have them in blaze orange anyway but their appearance makes it more of an imperative.
So nice to see all the visits and events with offspring. We’re flying out to see one of ours next weekend and can’t wait.
Friday: met a friend in the afternoon for a long chat before her son’s BMT, she’ll be providing a lot of grandchild care during that process.
Saturday: participated in a 5K fundraiser walk with former co-workers, went to a Beatles sing-along; watched baseball
Today: sold the futon, prepping bookshelves for Craigslist photos, researching Murphy Cabinet Beds, will call west coast DD for her birthday
Did a lot of my usual stuff-ran with my group yesterday morning, errands, library, laundry, yoga, etc.
We went to dinner with close friends on Friday evening and then to dinner with other close friends on Saturday evening. Had lunch with a close friend today. Feeling grateful to have these people in my life.
I cooked the 6 pound pork loin my husband bought today. He did online grocery ordering, and he had no idea how big that would be (there are only 2 of us home). We were supposed to have salmon, but pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw were perfect for the rainy day, and husband will hope for no rain tomorrow to cook the salmon. He will eat pulled pork again Tuesday, and we will freeze a fair amount for (adult) son to eat when he comes home sometime soon. I planned to go to the gym, but was feeling terrible this morning. Having a low key day has helped.
DD’19 and I are going to DD’17’s apartment this afternoon and spending the night! DH will probably be working late and again in the morning so he’s being left home to tend to the cats. I honestly can’t remember a time when I’ve left him overnight (other than stays in the hospital). He has been away a handful of times but I never had any reason to be gone I guess and I didn’t realize it till now.
Sunday if DH isn’t working we might meet the in-laws for lunch as it will be FIL’s 80th birthday and DD’19 hasn’t seen them since July.
Going to a friend’s surprise birthday party tonight, a college soccer game tomorrow, and a 1-year old birthday party Sunday. In between, finishing making the gift for the one-year-old and trying to get weekend chores done. Been a busy week so looking forward to what will hopefully be a fun weekend.
Yardwork!!
It is supposed to be sunny and nice. Raking leaves and putting the yard to sleep for the winter. Might hit a winery or two for a tasting- it is crush season.
Will start the weekend with the usual Saturday morning group run. H and I are hosting a bunch of friends on Saturday for a fish fry so the rest of the day that’s what we’ll be busy with. Sunday will be a few chores/workout/relaxing.
^^Yum, fish fry! What type of fish?
After a busy week of evenings this week looking forward to simply going to Costco after work, cooking a yummy dinner and relaxing.
Tomorrow picking up my Texas sister from the airport and hopefully taking her to do a couple of fun things in Detroit weather permitting.
Sunday hoping to somehow get same sister and my mom she is staying with (about 45 mins from my house) down to my house for lunch and whatever.
Truth be told I hate playing “entertaining out of town family”! We only see this sister once a year - she’s always been a little distant and doesn’t invite us to her home - so there’s always a little sense of awkwardness. Sigh, family.
