Whatcha Doin This Weekend??!

Lazy weekend over here. Some shopping, some housework, some exercise. Just got back from a 3 mile RT walk to the store to get yogurt. Saw a bunch of crows harassing a barred owl ? in a tree by the trail. Made Ukrainian borscht (no connection to the current events, lol) and having a late lunch. And the Sounders WON!!! Woooo!!!

Attended the Red Bandana Game at Boston College. If you don’t know the story please Google the short documentary or wiki. Short story is Welles crowther graduated and was an young investment banking analyst on Wall Street. Saved over 18 people lives running up and down the towers wearing his signature red bandana to cover his nose from the smoke. The whole stadium and team wears one for the game and parents are recognized. It’s very emotional and part of the school culture of service to others. Emotional.

Then drove back to get some dinner at Portuguese restaurant. Great day.

Near perfect weather–sunny and 60ish. Lots of leaf raking/mowing. Helped our widowed neighbor rake her yard, too. Trail walks with H and S on Sat. and Sun. to enjoy the nice weather. (Supposed to snow tonight–our 2nd snow, quite early for us.) Had a nice annual dinner/talk with H’s colleagues Sat. night. Slept in and went to the late mass with 2 kids. HS senior D was away at a scholarship competition. (Hope she gets the big one!) Picked up fast food for dinner. Helping younger D with homework…a full weekend.

Ordered a couple of gifts and our Christmas cards for 50%off on Shutterfly’s weekend sale.

Filled the base cabinets of the new bedroom bookcases and freed up some linear closet inches plus a dresser drawer. Took the dogs on a trail hike, where we saw a beaver lodge. No beavers though, they were avoiding us from either prudence or disdain.

Tomorrow DH is buying a scanner. Off to hover hopefully at the Bag-a-week thread.

Weekend is almost here! Got plans? Or is the best plan NO plan?

Not too many “musts” on my agenda. I will go spend some time with my mom tomorrow. If there is some free time I’d like to go to the pottery studio (I’m a beginner recently taking some basic classes) and see if I can make some holiday ornaments to give people.

My closet needs attention. Need to do some outside winter prep but also unfortunately winter arrived on Monday so need a little more melting to occur before I wrap up my outdoor work!

And exercise, always.

H and I really enjoy comedy, and we go to a local comedy place often. One of the comics we have gotten to know invited us to a taping of a comedy show in Detroit tonight. We are really looking forward to it. As a bonus, The Price is Right is taping tonight at a venue close to where we are going, so we hope to get to see some of the contestants - they can be very entertaining!

Long list of chores and small home projects tomorrow (nothing fun) but opera on Sunday.

We need to do some clean up around the house since we are having Thanksgiving here this year. I think Sunday we will do a take our walk and have lunch by the beach since it’s supposed to be 81 degrees!

Deciding if I want to drive to Ann Arbor to see the Michigan /Michigan State game. My son whose at Michigan warned me that he has to be somewhere at 5:00 and won’t have time to do something. But my mother just got back again from rehab and finally home and would just go to Detroit area to see her. Hmmmm

It’s supposed to be like 28 degrees but 32 degrees in Chicago actually is not that bad… Hmmm plus ticket prices dropped again… Maybe I will leave early in the morning… Hmmm

LOL.

My niece has offloaded (at my urging) a few crafty/Word doc tasks to me so she can focus on the important stuff. (She’s also a first year teacher and is pretty miserable.) So, just shopped my craft room and the 80% off bins at Michael’s, and between me and my really crafty youngest sister, we will get this DONE!

Veil is almost finished, headpiece still needs to be done. Also need to start packing for the trip. Am watching Durrells in Corfu and the Caps while I’m sewing. Should also plant the pansies I bought last week, as well as take the doggo to the park for a good run with her friends.

DH is hoping to avoid going in to work this weekend, which means a) he’ll be at work late tonight and b) he’ll spend the weekend instead trying to sleep off the persistent cold he’s been fighting for a month. If he gets bored, he’ll do the Thanksgiving grocery shopping for our trip to BIL’s, which happens three days after we get back from GA.

I think it will be a Chinese take-out scenario here this weekend.

The other day, my garage door coil spring snapped, so I’m having that fixed. My record shows that the last time I had to replace the spring was 7 years ago. I guess that ain’t too bad.

Looking forward to watching the Princeton vs. Yale football game tomorrow. If Princeton wins, then it’s a back-to-back bonfire time!

Husband going on a day hike in the mountains, though on a flatter trail. I’m hanging out at home with the dogs, trying to keep things relaxed enough to help our newly-neutered youngster heal.

Somewhere in there I want to defrost and clean the basement freezer before all the holiday food comes knocking on its door.

DD’19 is coming for the weekend, she’s in town now visiting with a friend who she hasn’t seen since graduation. But I’ll meet her for supper in about an hour and then we’ll pick up Grandma and go to the HS play. It will be the first time DD has been in the audience for one of these since 8th grade.

My brother the musician is playing a gig here tomorrow night- in his hometown- so DD’17 is coming out too and my siblings. Usually only see him once or twice a year. It will be fun!

Tonight we are going to a friend for a cooking class/dinner. It should be fun as I’ve taken a class from this same chef before.
Tomorrow I want to watch my niece play in her first NCAA Div 1 soccer championship tournament game. They have already won their league championship. It’s just round 1 and her team is playing a highly ranked team but I hope they win. We could drive two hours and watch in person but I know my H won’t want to do that. Will do the next best thing which will be to live stream or see if it’s being broadcasted on one of the ESPN channels.
Sunday will be day of rest.
Monday I have a nail and dinner date with my oldest. I’m really looking forward to that.

Tonight my husband went out with a friend, and I’m being a little productive, and catching up on CC. Tomorrow I need to pack because I’m heading to a conference Sunday. I’m looking forward to spending 4 days in a warm climate. I HOPE that by the time I get back my indoor cats are still indoors and the contractor has finished by bathroom project.
I will also go to the gym tomorrow, and hopefully spend a fair amount of time walking on Sunday.

Monday I am having a total knee replacement so this weekend I am cleaning, doing laundry and cooking and freezing some meals.
DD2 and I are also going clothes shopping which will be fun because that’s not something we normally do together.

Attending a day-long retreat of the NAMI Maine Board of Directors.

The great thing about living in a low-population state is that it’s easier to make a difference.

Up at 5:30 this morning to head up 95 for my son’s last home game of the season. High of 34 degrees and 15 mph winds. At least it’s sunny - that should help.

Left S21 home b/c his h.s. is playing in the conference championship tonight and he wanted to go. That worked out perfectly b/c HVAC company needed to come today to finish up the installation of both HVAC units that were destroyed in the Halloween storm. Looking forward to coming home to a warm house after two weeks with no heat!

We will stay tonight near S19’s school, take him out to dinner tonight and breakfast tomorrow before making the long trek home. Hopefully we won’t hit too much traffic. My last two trips traffic was awful coming home but at least this time Dh will be driving!

This is the first weekend in months without a HS marching band event - yay! Sleeping until a decent hour, starting Christmas cookies with my exhausted band child and making him a favorite meal for dinner. Get our dog out for a family walk and find a good movie to watch tonight.
Tomorrow - go Eagles!
Hope everyone has a great one!
