Nothing. This is the first weekend of our month-old empty nest that neither of the girls will be around! DH is working this morning, and we’re going out for pizza tonight. Doing laundry, etc.
Right now a day of nothing doesn’t sound bad @bjscheel !
And @deb922 that’s what we are here for! To hear/tell the good, bad, ugly we can’t always do in real life!
Just picked a bunch of tomatoes from my neighbors abandoned yard. Think I’m going to try and find time to make tomato jam for a function next week where I’m going to need a garden dish made ahead of time.
I’m expecting the weekend to be pretty quiet.
This morning my H is at his usual tennis game. He might end up at our beach for a few hours with a couple of his friends. My D and her BF might join them. I prefer to relax around my pool in the shade. I wish my H would have warmed it.
My big project for today is I’m going to make a fresh fig and ricotta cake from one of my Ina Garten cookbook. I’m not a baker but my D has a tree full of figs so I thought I’d try my hand at a cake. I’m so not a baker that in order to make this cake I had to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond this morning to buy a springform pan. I’m glad I went early as I forgot it is move in at the local UC. Thought of CC as I saw the young freshmen and their parents picking up their new dorm items. Stopped at the library and picked up a book I had requested for my H. I also checked out an interesting cookbook called Breakfast. It looks like it’s recipes for breakfast foods from all over the world.
Not sure what we will do for dinner. I’m hoping my D will come over to try the cake. She had to put her dog of 10 years to sleep this week and she is feeling pretty raw.
Tomorrow has no plans. Our weekends are pretty boring compared to a lot of you.
^ that cake sounds delicious! Report back please on how it turns out. We’ve had a bunch of fun travel weekends lately so this weekend is all about catching up on all that’s been neglected. Nothing fun here! Enjoy everyone!
Best-laid plans, etc. My mother broke her hip yesterday morning, had surgery yesterday afternoon. She’s looking stronger and is already restless today. We’re adding hospital back-and-forth to our pared-back usual. DH has undertaken a gigantic clothing purge, it looked like the dresser had puked all over our bedroom but so worth it! I mentally checked on the laundry and decided it could wait. Playing with the dogs to keep things normal.
This kind of weekend calls for needlework more than ever, so I’m making my way towards some time at a project by Sunday evening.
Over 80 here in northern New England, I want my crisp fall weather!
Got home from a business trip after 1 am this morning. Got up and did a virtual race (complete with number) in my neighborhood and then visited with the houseguest (my half-brother) who arrived before I got home from the trip and hung out with my husband. He and I had a few hours to just hang around, walk the dogs and have lunch before he headed out to drive back to northern VA. This evening I went to dinner at a friend’s house with some women friends of hers. My husband went on a church outing to Montgomery, AL to the Civil Rights Museum and some other related sites. Not much else planned, but I’m worn out from being on the west coast most of the past week and missing a lot of sleep.
Farmers Market, Tomatoes and Mozarella for lunch, a pretty good weeding of the rear garden which had been neglected for too long _ it looks good from a distance but when you get close - too many invasives. Saw Downton Abbey and enjoyed it thoroughly. Made shrimp creole for dinner without the rice and without the shrimp. (Used cod instead - it was excellent.) Watched an episode of the Americans which we are belated catching up on. Tomorrow we are “greeters” at our religious organization. Since we go very irregularly, I think this is a stupid job for us to have. Will go to the gym tomorrow afternoon. If I have time will probably scan more of my mother’s photos.
The fig cake turned out great.
Went out to dinner at a great Mexican place inside our public market. It would have been easy to stay home but I’m glad I pushed myself to go out.
The women’s chorus I sing with had an all day rehearsal today. It is my favorite activity so I thoroughly enjoyed it. When I came home I spent a couple of hours cutting fabric for a new quilt I’m making. My husband and I had Chipotle for dinner and watched the baseball game. Tomorrow I’ll walk the length of the mall (because the pool I usually go to has been closed for 6 weeks for emergency repairs and I have to do something) to buy cat food and end up at Target where I hope to get a flu shot. Then I’ll go over my music because there’s another rehearsal Monday night.
Short day at work on Friday. Saturday I went for a short run after walking the dogs. Then went to the recycling center, veterinarians office, gym for a wellness workshop, Target, grocery. Put my feet up for a bit, then we walked both dogs and I took our older one on an extended walk. We both enjoyed the puppy break. Mr. Sabaray and I had a nice dinner out with a wonderful bottle of Pinot. Today I’ve walked the dogs and we are headed over the mountain for some recreational shopping. Busier than normal!
We are part way into this weekend. Anyone doing anything exiciting?
I am watching college football on tv and cleaning my house. It has been 3 weeks since I have done anything but clean up the kitchen after dinner. So, I am doing a good dusting and vacuuming, and H is cleaning the main bathroom.
Last night went to hear a friend of ours play the blues in a music space created in the basement of a nearby wine store. There was wine tasting too. He was better than usual, and the second group was even better. Tonight we are going to an all woman performance of Twelfth Night where we will wander around the house and gardens to see different scenes. Also hope to remove one futon and replace it with a comfortable bed in the basement.
I’m happy for a weekend without much scheduled. I ran 9 1/2 miles this morning then relaxed on the deck with the dogs until my husband got back from his long bike ride. Our pet sitter is coming over to meet our new dogs because she’s staying with them this weekend. Will watch some college football, although my team makes me too nervous and it’s good if I ignore it for awhile. Want to catch up on some TV!
We have a quiet weekend. Last night we went to the Cal football game which had a disappointing ending. Nothing else scheduled. We may go to a movie or a local play but, otherwise, I’m looking forward to the down time.
I cracked a tooth earlier this week. It’s too deep to do a root canal on so I’m popping ibuprofen and taking antibiotics this weekend.
I get to have my molar extracted Wednesday and prepped for an implant.
So I’m home watching tv and eating soft food. Upside is that I’ve lost a pound or two.
I did take a 3 mile walk this morning so at least I did that.
I went early this morning to a charity furniture sale with my D. We didn’t see anything she wanted but the location was beautiful and we made a quick stop at a beach that we never go to. Picked some more figs from her tree and will make another fig ricotta cake to bring to a dinner tonight. I’m also going to see if I can find something easy and delicious to make with the extra figs. Tonight is an early Jewish new year dinner with long time friends. I made a couple of briskets yesterday and will reheat them for the dinner tonight.
Tomorrow morning I have a 90 minute massage booked with a wonderful massage therapist who comes to down on occasion. I’m so looking forward to it. Otherwise I’m planning a quiet Sunday. I might go pick up a book I reserved at the library on bullet journaling inspired by the CC thread.
Wishing everyone a peaceful relaxing weekend.
Cleaned out the carport. Doing laundry. Desperately needed yard guy is power washing the house for the first time in 21 years. DH is going on to work tomorrow, I will cook dinner and then we go to Rosh Hashanah services tomorrow night. Will quilt when time permits. Talked to S2 on Skype this afternoon.
Also going through bags and bags of donated fabric to see what I can pass along to another group that quilts for kids. I can’t make quilts for everyone…gotta clear out space to store what I’m keeping and to have a clear place to work.
Hey @bookreader - I was at that game last weekend! It was H’s 40 Year WP Class Reunion.
This weekend is the first in the last 4 weeks that we have been home. Went to dinner last night with close friends. Today we did a bunch of chores/errands and now I’m resting up to run my first 10 miler tomorrow morning.
Last night went to the HS Homecoming football game and watched DD19’s boyfriend hurt his knee in the first quarter. DD didn’t get to come because it’s her theatre performance weekend at college. I didn’t text her because I didn’t want her to see anything before going on stage. But…her friend did. DD uses her phone as a prop and so while she’s on stage she sees “Did you hear what happened to A?” So she’s up there thinking the worst but I guess she was supposed to act anxious in that moment so…
Today chilling at home- just came in from picking up copious amounts of walnuts out of the grass. Waiting for DD’17 to get home and making lasagna for supper.
Tomorrow after church we go to see DD’s performance and taking a carload- three of us, Grandma, and three friends of DD’s. More friends are going on their own. Since there isn’t an evening performance she’ll get to show everyone her room and go out to supper. Should be a good time!
This is one thread I wish I could “reply” to every response! I just love the content of this thread for some reason…I’m guessing because I just love the routine and activities of everyday life.
@deb922 ouch on the tooth. Good luck this week.
I was out of town yesterday for a work conference which luckily was in the same town where my D2 is in grad school - AND last evening was her white coat ceremony so we were able to attend that and take her out for dinner.
Today was the best meal of the year -even better than Thanksgiving - our annual community garden potluck. It’s AMAZING. I brought homemade tomato jam and jalapeno cornbread.
Stopped at the produce market and picked up some outside fall decor which I hope to get placed this weekend.
I’m also running to my son’s house 3x a day to let his in-laws pup out - that duty goes until tomorrow. She is old and the TINEST little thing!
Other than that I need to attend to things in the house and hope to literally veg out this evening after a really busy last couple of days.
